CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team dug an early 6-0 hole through 15 minutes on Saturday afternoon and were never able to get themselves out of it as the visiting Washington College Shorewomen posted a 15-8 win in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams at Biddle Field.
- The visitors used the opening five minutes to win four draw controls and tally five goals, while allowing the home side just one possession during that stretch leading to a DC timeout with the score reading 5-0.
- Out of the break Dickinson tried to crack the scoreboard, but Crawford Fisher rang the post and Sage Whiteside sent her offering off the mark.
- Washington continued to lockdown the Devils defensively forcing five DC miscues and record six shots on the offensive side leading to a pair of stops for Peyton VanDorpe as well as a goal by Piper Evans making it 6-0 after one.
- An early giveaway for Evans caused by VanDorpe led to Caroline Cavendish finding Grace Kelly for the finish less than a minute in.
- After two more saves from VanDorpe, the home side closed to within 6-2 when Meghan McDonald converted a free-position chance at the 3:29 mark.
- The next six-plus minutes went by without a goal as goalies McKenna Seashole and VanDorpe combined for three more stops.
- However, a late green card issued to the hosts resulted in Lexi Vennera making it 7-2 with just under two minutes left.
- Mia Seergae jarred the rock loose from Evans late in the period, but despite Carson Cerow tracking down the groundball she was unable to get another look at cage as the game went to halftime.
- The visitors played some more "make it, take it" lacrosse early in the quarter with Elisabeth Braswell and Tobin Chambers finding the net with not even three minutes gone (9-2).
- Off the ensuing draw Faith Parker separated Madison Maguire from the rock leading to a loose ball scoop for Whiteside. She would feed ahead to Cerow who had her inital shot blocked, but was able to collect her own rebound and stash it home.
- Unfortunately, Washington had a quick response scoring three times on their next four chances to open up a 12-3 edge still with 4:44 to play.
- Just over a minute later Dickinson trimmed one off the gap when Whiteside played provider for Eva Gardner, but 64-seconds ticks later Chambers extended the lead to 13-4 through three.
- Dickinson used a trio of Kelly assists to Jenna Nowland, Cavendish and Cerow to cut the deficit down to 13-7 with 9:04 remaining.
- The Red and White continued to chip away as a stop by VanDorpe on Evans resulted in Fisher cashing in cutting the margin by one to 13-8 with 7:47 gone.
- However, three more Seashole saves along with tallies for Mia Salvatierra and Evans set the 15-8 final.
