From the Mind of Coach Hanson
- Thoughts on Schedule
-
We were very intentional with our non-conference schedule for the 2025 season, placing an increased emphasis of SOS to best prepare us for a difficult Centennial Conference slate. Additionally, scheduling ranked opponents will hopefully improve our in-region ranking maximizing our chances at an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. It will be one of the most difficult schedules we have had during my tenure at Dickinson. Our spring trip to California features games against Chapman and Cal Lutheran who have both recently won national titles. We also have one game left with NJAC powerhouse Rowan and host a doubleheader with always strong Mary Washington. I am excited to see how we stack up against some of the best teams in the country.
- What have you seen in the start of the season that has you excited?
- I am happy to see the team compete against some very tough competition to start out the year. Our starting pitching has been a strength, especially on the weekend doubleheaders and we have been able to capitalize on some of the mistakes our opponents have made.
- How have your first-years acclimated to the college game so far?
- There is always an adjustment period when moving from high school to the college game, but I am very pleased with the progress our first-years have made. One of the biggest adjustments is the physicality and speed of the college game, and I give Coach Mike Myers a ton of credit for what he has done to help them in the weight room. Our young guys have definitely benefited from his program, and have all made strides since arriving to campus. Our team is very experience, but I fully expect that our young guys will play a key role in our success as the year continues.
- What are you hoping to out of your Spring Break trip that starts this weekend?
- I am hoping that this trip will further allow us to evaluate pitchers to better determine our bullpen for conference play. I am also very excited for our offense to get away from the cold temperatures and strong winds that we have seen so far this year both on the road and at home. Lastly, I am excited for our team to play some of the best that Division III has to offer and see how we measure up.
