#16 Devils Lock Up Postseason Berth by Blitzing Fords on Senior Day

CARLISLE, Pa. - The 16th-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team got goals from a dozen different players and outscored the visiting Haverford College 10-1 over the second and fourth quarters on Saturday afternoon en route to a convincing 15-5 conference win at Biddle Field. Prior to the start of the game the Red and White honored the 13 seniors that were playing in their final regular season game in Carlisle.

Postseason Outlook
With the win today the Devils have put themselves in a position where a win in next Saturday's regular season finale at Muhlenberg will secure the second seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament.

Template - 1st Quarter
  • Haverford tested Dickinson keeper Rocco Bognet early as he denied both Reid Tiejen and Matt Richards within the first minute.
  • The next five chances belonged to the Devils with Ethan Gess, Landen Hyatt, Owen Porter and Luke Whalen tasking Jacob Abraham into making one stop, before Charlie Baughan finished unassisted at the 3:32 mark.
  • After Tiejen answered for the Fords, Whalen connected with Tommy Baldini about a minute later to reclaim a 2-1 edge.
  • Baughan attempted to add onto the lead, but Abraham made a pair of saves allowing Tyler Vendetti to control a loose ball. Fortunately, for the Red and White, Will Single jarred the ball free and watched Ethan Ackerman track it down and fling a pass to Whalen who once again found Baldini for a 3-1 advantage with 7:05 left.
  • Each keeper notched two more stops, before Richards struck for the guests cutting it to 3-2 with one period in the books.
Template - 2nd Quarter
  • Dickinson added to their lead only 49-seconds in as Ben Trucksess claimed the opening faceoff allowing Gess to link up with Baldini for his hat trick (4-2).
  • A little over two minutes later Sam Bunten caused a turnover of Tiejen, leading to Abraham shutting down Ramsey Huggins. The Devils kept on chugging along with Whalen playing provider for Hyatt to open the gap to 5-2 less then ten minutes left.
  • After Evan Karetsos forced a giveaway from Philip Passalaqua, Porter buried the rock to make it 6-2 prior to Jack Schutte cleaning up a rebound off a save from Abraham on Josh Smith (7-2).
  • Haverford outshot the Red and White by a margin of 7-2 over the final six minutes, but only tasked Bognet into recording one save as the game entered halftime.
Template - 3rd Quarter
  • The Devils kept on rolling early in the third taking the first three shots with Hyatt striking on a man-up opportunity at the 1:35 mark.
  • Coming off a stop by Abraham against Hyatt, Tiejen and D'Andre Chaney found paydirt for the guests to cut the deficit down to 8-4 with 9:18 to play.
  • Dickinson fired four straight shots with Abraham making one stop, which was then answered by the Fords tallying four of the ensuing five tasking Bognet with one save as well.
  • One of the most exciting plays in lacrosse happened with just under three minutes remaining when Capp Reynolds caused a turnover by Richards. Karetsos then tracked down the loose ball and got out in transition with Reynolds who accepted a feed and solved Abraham with the long-pole (9-4).
Template - 4th Quarter
  • The first five minutes of the period saw Dickinson add two more to their total with Whalen scoring an unassisted marker, while Huggins hooked up with Gess on a nice play to extend the margin to seven (11-4).
  • After Jack Deady forced a turnover, the Fords jumped into a 10-man ride matching up man-to-man across the field leaving the net empty. That would allow Karetsos to step into a shot from about 50-yards out and hit the twine for the 12-4 advantage at the 6:36 mark.
  • The two sides shared the next six shots, but neither team was able to find the net.
  • On Senior Day, Ben Tompkins entered the game between the pipes with 5:38 to play and was immediately called into action shutting down Richards. He would then watch his offense help him out as classmates Carter Wilmot, Colin Williams and Jacob Strouch all buried the rock past Abraham to set the 15-5 final.
