PENFIELD, N.Y. - Dickinson junior men's golfer
Collin McMahon-Shea gave a strong showing on Day One of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship by carding a one-over 73 on the 6770-yard, par 72 Cobblestone Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
He began the day on the 10th hole a 430-yard, par 4 and kicked off his round with three straight pars. Then, the par 4, 443-yard 13th was where he recorded his first birdie of the day, followed by two more pars to sit at one-under through six. Unfortunately, he then hit a bit of a rough patch posting bogeys on five of the next seven holes to sit at four-over with five to play. McMahon-Shea closed the round strong picking up three pars, in addition to a birdie on the 354-yard, par 4 fifth and a tremendous eagle (three) on the par 5, 526-yard eighth.
The individual leaders through one day is the University of Lynchburg's Edward Coffren and Bethel University (Minn.) who fired identical four-under 68s. The team standings are paced by Illinois Wesleyan who finished at 290 to hold a four shot edge over the pair of Carleton and John Carroll.
Next on the Tee
McMahon-Shea is back at it tomorrow morning trying to earn a spot in the field that will get to play the final two rounds.
