Today we continue our Red Devil Check-In series by hearing from women's track and field student-athlete Erin Olsavsky as we hear what she has going on this summer away from campus.

Summer Check-In
Where are you working/interning this summer? Company and Location.

Haverford Township Parks and Recreation. Havertown, Pa 

Please describe your day-to-day responsibilities in this position.

I am a site leader for my township’s summer camp programs, which includes planning and supervising programs for children anywhere from the ages of 3 to 14. Each day I lead a range of activities, including sports, crafts, swimming in a creek, and going on field trips.

What made this experience appealing to you?

I have been working for my township’s park and recreation department for the last five years, and I love getting to spend my summers working at the camps.  

How does this experience relate to your career or life aspirations? What are you looking to personally get out of it?

As an aspiring teacher, this job gives me experience organizing and executing daily plans as well as managing groups of children. I get to build skills in leadership and develop confidence, applying what I learn in my education classes to real life situations. 

How has your athletics career prepared you for this role?

My athletic career has given me skills in teamwork, time management, and dedication which  me to be my best self at work everyday. These skills help me lead my staff and campers so that each day is a success. 

What are you looking forward to for this upcoming year for your sport?

I’m looking forward to spending time with my teammates and enjoying my final year of running.  

Is there anything else you are looking forward to this summer outside of this experience?

Spending time with my family and friends.
