CARLISLE, Pa. - The Dickinson football team used a well-balanced offensive effort and forced three Waynesburg University interceptions en route to a dominant 52-19 win in the 2025 home opener at Biddle Field on Saturday afternoon.
First Quarter
- The began the opening drive of the game on their own 28 yardline following the return by Keesean Campbell. Runs by tailback Cedric Benning III and quarterback Ben Klassen got the home side across midfield to the WU34. Klassen then found Mathias Young for a short completion, before carries for Dane Sorensen and Benning III had DC on the WU10. That was when senior tight end Kellen Boyer hauled in a pass from Klassen for the touchdown (Justin Worobel kick).
- Waynesburg used an aerial attack to get into DC territory down to the 27-yardline. However, that was when the drive hit an abrupt end as Thomas Burke III had his pass picked off by Juan Pablo Garcia.
- Following a short rush for Campbell, Klassen linked up with Frederik Fjeldseth for a 47-yard strike up to the WU35. Then two carries each by Benning III and Campbell moved the Devils to the 11 ending the period.
Second Quarter
- The first play of the frame was when DC made it 14-0 as Klassen flipped a short pass in the left flat to Campbell who raced into the endzone (Justin Worobel kick).
- The running back tandem of Zayne Cawley and Carson Shriver advanced the Yellow Jackets to the DC38 where they faced fourth and seven. Burke III and the rest of the offense came back out onto the field, but his pass missed Tyler Richmond giving the ball back to the hosts with 9:55 left.
- Two runs by Sorensen and a pass to Campbell coupled with an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty had the Devils looking at first and ten on the WU25. Two plays later a handoff to Sorensen saw the Red and White go up 21-0 as he hustled home from 25 out (Justin Worobel kick).
- Waynesburg finally cracked the board on the ensuing possession going 11 plays and picking up 70 yards taking nearly seven minutes off the clock ending in a six-yard TD run for Cawley (Drew Pinkerton kick).
- Dickinson took over on their own 35 with 1:55 remaining and using back-to-back passes to Boyer along with a 13-yard scamper by Klassen had the Devils knocking on the door at the WU17. Benning toted the rock for four yards, before Klassen connected with Boyer from 13 away for a 28-7 halftime lead (Justin Worobel kick).
Third Quarter
- To open the half WU went to Luke Hudson under center and he immediately made an impact finding Isaac Trout for 64-yard gain down to the DC7. Two plays later Cawley plunged into the endzone for the second time on the day (Drew Pinkerton kick no good).
- On the ensuing kickoff from Pinkerton, Campbell would field the ball at his own six-yardline and got behind a wall of blockers going down the left sideline en route to a 94-yard touchdown return making it 35-13 (Justin Worobel kick).
- The Dickinson defense dug deep on the next drive forcing a three and out thanks in large part to a six-yard sack by Domani White at the WU22. Then on fourth and 15 the Yellow Jackets pulled out a fake punt, but the pass from Kevin Willis to Richmond fell well short of the line to gain giving it back to the Red and White on the WU22. Dickinson would ultimately settle on a 32-yard field goal by Worobel extending the margin to 38-13.
- The following WU drive saw them get out to their own 45 and left them facing fourth and ten. Landon Bradley would come out to punt the ball away, but the Devils broke through the line leading to Brady Blanchard blocking the kick allowing Sixten Motivala to scoop the ball up and gallop 35 yards to the endzone for the 45-13 advantage (Justin Worobel kick).
Fourth Quarter
- Waynesburg's opening drive took advantage of two DC personal foul penalties and runs by Mutwali Stewart and Shriver to get up to the DC18. However, the Yellow Jackets would not be able to do anything else as Burke III had his pass plucked out of the air by Josh Moses in the endzone.
- The ensuing DC possession saw Giovanni Del Re take over at quarterback for the Devils. Five rushes by Bobby Brickner helped the home team to get out to midfield. Then a 17-yard pass to Colin Sullivan and 10-yard hookup with Finn Luca had DC on the WU21. Those were followed by three straight Brickner carries which eventually put him in the endzone making it 52-13 (Justin Worobel kick).
- Waynesburg used the remaining 5:01 to put together one more touchdown drive as Burke III found Giovanni Cipoletti on the game's final play to set the final score of 52-19.
