No. 14 Devils Fall to No. 3 Blue Jays in Nationally-Ranked Conference Clash

BALTIMORE - The 14th-ranked Dickinson field hockey team saw their unblemished start to the season unfortunately come to an end on Tuesday night as they suffered a 3-0 Centennial Conference loss to the third-ranked Johns Hopkins University in a battle of nationally ranked squads at Homewood Field. Johns Hopkins capitalized on their offensive pressure, scoring once in each of the first three quarters and holding a 22-5 shot advantage on the night.

First Quarter
  • Johns Hopkins applied early pressure with multiple corners by Sophia Albano, leading to three wide shots within the first eight minutes.
  • Dickinson's defense held firm with a crucial save by Taylor Morrow on a shot from Ava Zimmerman at 12:41, followed by a defensive save from Calyn Clements off the rebound.
  • Eliza Vander broke the deadlock for the Jays at 13:39 mark when she collected the rebound off a stop from Morrow on Ada Farmer and popped it over the DC netminder.
  • The Red and White offered a late offensive push, with attempts by Alexandra Hockwitt and Nicole Ueble being turned away by Aubrey Kilgore in the final minute of the quarter.
Second Quarter
  • Johns Hopkins initiated pressure early with a shot by Grace Waldeck, saved by Morrow.
  • JHU earned multiple penalty corners played in by Zoey Bennett leading to four shots through the opening five minutes, but the Devils defense continued to hold strong as Maggie Carson recorded a defensive save against Evie Hamm to keep it at just 1-0.
  • Four minutes from time Uebele got the visitors lone look at goal in the period, unfortunately the offering rolled wide of Jessica Lapidus in cage.
  • Despite Dickinson's solid defensive effort to maintain the one-goal margin, the Blue Jays pushed the gap to 2-0 heading into halftime as Sophia Builione sent her own rebound past Morrow.
Third Quarter
  • Kilgore returned to the cage for the hosts to open the frame and she would see her side make it 3-0 at the 7:34 mark when Jenna Halpin scored on a penalty stroke.
  • Hopkins continued their attack notching three more shots on two corners over the rest of the period, but none of the chances tested Morrow.
Fourth Quarter
  • Two minutes into the quarter Dickinson had an opportunity to get on the board as Carson played in a corner to Hockwitt who forced a save out of Kilgore.
  • Unfortunately, for the Red and White the Blue Jays controlled things the rest of the way adding four more shots and tasking Morrow with making three more stops to end the game.
