CARLISLE, Pa. - For the first time this season the Dickinson women's basketball team saw an opponent for the second time on the western side of the Centennial Conference as McDaniel College came calling to the Kline Center looking to avenge a 59-57 loss to the Red and White in Maryland back in December. Unfortunately for the Devils they were unable to complete the season sweep of the Green Terror as a strong defensive effort coupled with a 9-for-57 shooting output for the home side allowed McDaniel to secure a 67-29 win on Wednesday night.
First Quarter
- The visitors came out firing taking an 8-0 lead three-plus minutes in on buckets for Lauren Cavoli, Teya McConnaha and Jordan McLean.
- After missing their first four shots, two free throws by Addison Cadwell and a triple from Lizzie McGrath off a dish by Victoria Zerbe cut it down to 8-5 less than two minutes later.
- Dickinson continued to fight back with jumpers for Emma Landes, Cadwell and McGrath knotting the game up at 11-11 with 1:25 left.
- Unfortunately, the duo of Raegan Lenz and Riley Waite ran off six straight making it 17-11 after one.
Second Quarter
- The margin stayed the same two minutes into the frame with Elaina Beckett and Mia Chapman trading buckets to leave it 19-13.
- A three-ball for Cavoli began a 12-0 charge for the visitors that ended on another layup by Cavoli to open the gap to 31-13 with 3:29 left.
- Zerbe connected with a layup in the paint to stall the run for a second, but an answer from Cavoli pushed it to 33-15 at the break.
Third Quarter
- Clare Cronley would hit from deep and Chapman setup Zerbe for a layup early in the period, but it could do nothing to cut into the deficit as baskets from Beckett and McConnaha extended the lead to 41-20 with 3:28 gone.
- Dickinson went "ice cold" for the rest of stanza as they missed their final seven shots, while five different Green Terror players contributed to a 10-0 run jumping ahead 51-20 with ten minutes to play.
Fourth Quarter
- Over the first two minutes foul shots by Cadwell and Chapman accounted for the Dickinson points as they still trailed 53-23.
- McDaniel then picked up five consecutive points, before two Landes free throws made it 58-25 with 2:55 left.
- Gabby Smelcer and Lily Spanos would tally buckets down the stretch, but the visitors finished off the 67-29 win.
