NEW YORK - Both the Dickinson men's and women's squash programs were represented in the "Big Apple" over the past couple of days as the group of
Katie Herring,
Anabel Romero and
Joe Smythe took to the courts at Open Squash - FiDi in New York City to take part in the College Squash Association Individual Championships.
Herring, opened her tournament on Friday afternoon against Thanusaa Uthrian from Trinity College. She would give it all she could in the first two games dropping a pair of 11-9 decisions, before being tripped up in the third 11-5. After the setback to Ulthrian, Herring dropped into the consolation bracket where she took down Anastasiia Krykun out of Amherst College in three games. She was then awarded the win in the semifinal by forfeit over Tufts University's Maria Arseniev. Unfortunately, due to the forecasted weather in the area the final was not played.

Romero, kicked off her competition also on Friday with a matchup versus Sohaila Ismail from the University of Pennsylvania. The Quaker would take the 1-0 lead thanks to an 11-4 win, but Romero rallied back 11-9 in game two. However, Ismail posted back-to-back 11-4 victories to claim the match. Romero then moved into the consolation bracket and traded the first four games with Columbia University's top player Nourin Khalifa prior to picking up an impressive 11-6 win in the decisive fifth game. Romero would not be able to compete any further though as she was forced to forfeit to Tufts University's Ella Hill in the consolation semifinal.

Smythe, began Friday afternoon as well taking on Huzaifa Ibrahim from Trinity College. Ibrahim started things off with an 11-9 triumph, before the Devil edged away the second game thanks to a 13-11 score. Unfortunately, he could not finish things off as the Bantam grabbed games three and four by margins of 13-11 and 11-6. Following his loss Smythe slipped down into the consolation bracket and earned a forfeit win in the first round over Youssef Bastawy from Drexel University. He was then tripped up in the second round by the top player from Franklin and Marshall College Kyle Broadhurst in three games.
