SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Dickinson softball team unfortunately had their season come to an end on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Swarthmore College at the Clothier Softball Field. Inside the Game
  • Dickinson got a hit each from Jessie Sandusky and Amelia Plescia over the first three innings, but were not able to push either across. However, in the last of the third with two down a pair of singles and a hit batter loaded the bases. Avery McClure and Linnaea Rasmussen then provided back-to-back RBI singles to grab a 3-0 lead entering the fourth.
  • After a one-two-three top-half by Lane Barron, DC starter Erin McMahon once again set down the first two batters she faced before the Garnet got the bats working as a single and double led to one coming in. That was the end of the day for McMahon as Emory Hadden was brought in from the bullpen. She allowed an RBI knock to Regan Valenzuela to make it 5-0.
  • In the fifth, doubles from Plescia and Elizabeth Raefski drove home one with two out. Sandusky then delivered an RBI single up the box to plate Raefski to trim it down to 5-2 going to the sixth.
  • The home-half of the inning saw Swarthmore pick up three more thanks to three singles and a double.
  • Abby Kohan and Aubrey Coyle started the seventh with singles to have runners at the corners with no one out. However, Raefski then bounced into a double play to plate one. Sandusky followed with a ground out to end the game.

Inside the Game
  • Dickinson had a chance to strike right away as Sandusky doubled and Jane Lloyd reached on an error to leave two on with one out. Unfortunately, McMahon flew out to right and Marah Goldman grounded out to second retiring the side. Swarthmore took a 1-0 lead in the home-half with Iris Barone reaching on an error, before McClure drove her home with a knock to right. They extended their edge to 2-0 heading to the third using a single, double and sacrifice fly to center.
  • The Red and White put together a nice response during the top-half of the third as a walk to Sandusky and singles for Aubrey Gilbert and Lloyd packed the cushions for McMahon. She came up with a sac fly to center, prior to Plescia driving in a pair with a single giving DC a 3-2 lead. However, as quickly as the Red Devils got the lead, Swarthmore answered in a big way recording four hits and getting help from three visiting miscues to rack up six runs to jump back in front 8-3.
  • Two batters into the fourth Dickinson chopped into the deficit as Coyle led off with a single, before being driven home on a two-bagger from Raefski. A wild pitch pushed her to third prior to crossing home when Sandusky grounded out to short (8-5). The Garnet loaded the bases in the last of the frame and collected two more runs off of a two-run single by Rae Barron making it 10-5 heading to the fifth.
  • Walks to Goldman and Coyle were the only other base runners that the Devils could muster throughout the rest of the game as the Garnet finished off the win.
