CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Dickinson softball team battled hard all afternoon on Saturday on the eastern shore of Maryland as they took on Washington College in a Centennial Conference doubleheader. The Shorewomen nabbed a tightly contested game one by a score of 5-2, before the Devils took the nightcap in a 13-8 offensive slugfest.
Game One
Final Score: Shorewomen 5, DEVILS 2
Team Records: Dickinson (5-10) | Washington (7-18)
Pitching Decision: W - Anna Hutchison (2-6) | L -
Erin McMahon (1-5)
Inside the Game
- Dickinson was out of the gates fast with a bunt single from Aubrey Gilbert and base hit to right by Jane Lloyd putting runners on the corners with one down. That allowed Erin McMahon to help herself with a two-run single. A walk to Marah Goldman and hit for Amelia Plescia filled the bags, but a strikeout of Abby Kohan and ground out by Aubrey Coyle ended the rally. In the home-half of the first, McMahon allowed a single and double to let one cross leaving it at 2-1.
- Washington would then take the lead in the last of the second as a walk and single set the stage for RBI base knocks for Emma Trainer and Jenna Harper making it 3-2 after two.
- Dickinson got singles from Lloyd and Coyle over the next two frames, but could not drive either home. The Shorewomen extended their advantage during the bottom of the fourth with two singles putting two on with two gone for Gracelyn Goforth who pushed it to 5-2 with a bases clearing triple to center. McMahon then got Lilly Wenzel to groundout retiring the side.
- That would be more than enough for Hutchison as she setdown nine of the final ten batters she faced to seal up the 5-2 win.

Final Score: DEVILS 13, Shorewomen 8
Team Records: Dickinson (6-10) | Washington (7-19)
Pitching Decision: W -
Emory Hadden (1-2) | L - Emmie Meeks (3-8)
Inside the Game
- After a quiet top of the first, Skye Cooke went to the circle in the last of the first and quickly found some trouble as three straight walks led to a sac fly to center for a 1-0 lead. Another walk reloaded the bases and signaled the end of Cooke's appearance as Hadden returned to the circle. An RBI double from Grace Allen and run scoring hit for Becca Foulk made it 5-0 going to the second.
- The score stayed that way until the top of the third when with two gone a single for Jessie Sandusky allowed Gilbert to drive her home with a double to left-center. Lloyd worked a walk to put two on for McMahon who sent a pitch back up the box to plate Gilbert (5-2). Hadden then posted a clean home portion of the frame to give DC a chance to continue the comeback.Â
- Over the ensuing two frames each side recorded two hits with Plescia and Lloyd providing them for the Red and White, but were not able to come in against Meeks. However, during the fifth Washington did get one as a double from Wenzel crossed on a sac fly by Weglarz.
- To begin the sixth, three straight singles from the trio of Plescia, Kohan and Coyle got one back. After Alex Johnson reached on a bunt, Sandusky drove home a pair with a knock to left. A free pass to Lloyd loaded the pillows for McMahon who smashed a two-run single to right making it 7-6 Devils. Goldman followed with an RBI ground out for an 8-6 edge heading to the home-half. Hadden maintained the lead by working around a lead off single.
- Hutchison once again found herself in the circle to open the seventh and allowed a single, but got a pair of popouts to be on the verge of getting out of the inning. A walk to Sandusky was quickly followed by RBI hits from Gilbert, McMahon and Goldman to give the Red and White a 13-6 advantage. With WAC facing "last call" a single, triple, walk and double allowed the home side to gain a little momentum closing to within 13-8 with no one out. That brought Kaylie Renner in from the pen and she squashed any further rally getting a pair of fly outs and a strikeout to end the game.
