Plescia's Eighth Inning Walkoff Salvages Split with Fords

CARLISLE, Pa. - First-year Amelia Plescia posted the walkoff RBI single in the bottom-half of the eighth inning of game two to help the Dickinson softball team notch a split against Haverford College at Dickinson Park in the Centennial Conference opener for both schools. The Fords earned a tight 2-1 win in game one, before the Devils grabbed the 5-4 extra inning victory.

Inside the Game
  • Haverford would get on the board in the first against Abby Kohan as a leadoff double for Kyra Van Denburgh came around to score two batters later on a groundout by Shelby Preisser. Abby Litchfield then doubled to right, but Lauren Martin grounded out to second for the last out. The bottom of the first saw Jessie Sandusky work a one out walk, before back-to-back strikeouts retired the side.
  • Dickinson squared the game up an inning later with a leadoff single for Marah Goldman crossing two players later when Plescia ripped a double to right field. However, the Red and White could not add any more as back-to-back pop-ups for Aubrey Coyle and Aubrey Gilbert retired the side.
  • In the home-half of the fourth with two gone, Plescia was hit by a pitch, Coyle and Gilbert walked but Alex Johnson popped up to end the threat.
  • After the Devils were kept off the board, a single for Van Denburgh and two-bagger from Jocelyn Leal put the Fords in front 2-1.
  • Dickinson got one base runner in each of their next two chances, but never could force anyone home. Then, during the last of the seventh a walk for Jane Lloyd and single by Goldman had two on with two away. Unfortunately, Kohan grounded out to short ending the game.

Inside the Game
  • With things still at 0-0 into the last of the second, Goldman began the frame with a double and then was driven in by a Kohan single. After Lauren Routzahn moved her to third, a walk to Coyle put runners on the corners for Johnson who made it 2-0 with an RBI double to deep center. Lloyd and Goldman would reach in the ensuing inning with only one down, but a strikeout and popout ended the potential rally.
  • Erin McMahon who had been excellent through the first four innings ran into some difficulty in the fifth when with two gone both Addie Sapirstein and Sarah Fan drew walks. That signaled the end of the day for McMahon as Hadden took over in the circle and she immediately setdown Van Denburgh to wrap up the top of the frame. Then in the home-half, with two out McMahon doubled and Goldman reached on an error to give the Red and White the chance to add on which was exactly what they did when Kohan smacked a double to push the gap out to 3-0 thru five.
  • Dickinson maintained that cushion into the top of the seventh until the Fords produced four runs thanks to four hits and a pair of DC miscues to take a 4-3 advantage and put the Devils on the cusp of being swept. Sandusky began things by being plunked by a pitch from Lauren Lamme. Back-to-back groundouts pushed her the runner to third with two gone. Goldman then tied the game by reaching on an error allowing Sandusky to race home forcing extras.
  • With the runner automatically placed on second, Lauren Martin advanced her to third with a sac bunt, before a strikeout and groundout ended the inning. Opening up the last of the frame, Kohan was put on second and went to third on a sacrifice bunt for Routzahn. That brought Plescia to the dish and she ripped a single to center plating Kohan for the win.
