SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Dickinson women's lacrosse team held a 4-3 edge after 15 minutes on Saturday at Swarthmore. Unfortunately, a 5-0 second quarter from the host Garnet helped to build up an 8-4 edge at halftime that they would never look back from as they picked up a 14-8 conference victory at Clothier Stadium.
First Quarter
- Things started well for Dickinson as Sage Whiteside nabbed the opening draw and took it all the way for a 1-0 lead only 26 seconds in.
- Just over a minute later the home side found the equalizer from Annabel Stifler.
- After both Brooke Carrier and Peyton VanDorpe recorded a stop, Aubree Daugherty gave the hosts their first lead. However, Quinn Foa had a quick answer to lock the game at 2-2 with 8:47 left.
- Carrier would deny Abby Geary, but on the ensuing Garnet possession a turnover caused by Jillian McNulty led to Foa setting up Heidi Schmidt to reclaim the lead (3-2).Â
- Kate Fox and Foa traded markers in the final minute to give the Devils a slim 4-3 edge through one.
Second Quarter
- Swarthmore needed only 30 seconds for Stifler to make it 4-4.Â
- The Garnet recorded the ensuing three shots as well with VanDorpe making a pair of stops, but also being solved by Stifler again (5-4).
- Whiteside posted the first two shots of the frame for the visitors with eight minutes resulting in two more saves from Carrier.
- The duo of Fox and Stifler ended the frame with a three-goal run to make it 8-4, while at the other end Carrier turned aside Eva Gardner and Schmidt.
Third Quarter
- Carrier continued to be the story over the first five minutes denying both Foa and Whiteside to hold the margin at four.
- The Garnet would then make a two-minute power play really work for them as Claire Long, Fox and Stifler all struck during that stretch extending the advantage to 11-4 with 8:21 left.
- Off the ensuing draw control win by Whiteside, the ball eventually made its way to Grace Kelly who found Schmidt (11-5).
- Turnovers caused by the duo of Mal Cavanagh and Lexi Thaut presented the opportunity for Foa and Geary to each tally closing the gap to 11-7.
Fourth Quarter
- For the second straight period early stops by Carrier set the stage for two more Garnet markers making it 13-7 with less than four minutes off the clock.
- VanDorpe attempted to keep her side in the game by recording three more saves, but at the other end of the field Carrier shutdown Gardner. Â
- Dickinson chipped one off the gap with 9:42 gone when Schuyler Cerow connected with Kelly.
- However, Long buried the final marker of the game to set the 14-8 final.
