Devils Run Streak to Four by Dethroning Monarchs

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Dickinson volleyball team took advantage of ten aces and a dozen kills from Mallie Thomas to secure their fourth straight win with a 3-0 road non-conference win over the host King's College at Scandlon Gym on Thursday night.

First Set
  • Kills for Jessica Currie and Kylie Schner had things locked at 5-5 early on.
  • A pair of Brenna Williams aces along with a solo score by Emery Fishbach gave DC a 9-7 edge, but the host responded with four straight to claim the 11-9 advantage.
  • A mishit by Weronika Malinowski set the stage for kills from Caroline Cusson, Lora Flynn, Schner and Thomas during an 8-1 charge to make it 17-12.
  • Three in a row for King's made the score 17-15, before Norah Oppenheim, Currie, Cusson and Fishbach closed out the 25-19 win.
Second Set
  • A joint block between Fishbach and Oppenheim was followed by scores for Cusson, Oppenheim and Thomas to take an 11-5 lead.
  • Four DC errors and a solo swing by Malinowski cut the deficit to 11-10, before five Monarch mistakes coupled with an ace for Lilith Roman made it 17-13 guests.
  • Bella Boylan and Malinowski settled things down for a second at 19-17.
  • Kills from Iona Nelson, Cusson and Thomas aided a 6-2 sprint for the Devils to take the frame 25-19.
Third Set
  • The two sides shared the first dozen points, prior to scores for Avery Butcher, Maisy Naff, Fishbach and Thomas making it 16-10.
  • A pair of Malinowski kills kept the gap at six (18-12).
  • After Dickinson notched two points, Saoirse Bilodeau and Malinowski trimmed the gap by one to 21-16.
  • Thomas continued to keep the Monarchs at an arms-length at 23-17, but Bilodeau and Boylan kept up the attack pulling the margin to 24-21.
  • The Red and White secured the win when Boylan missed with her next serve (25-21).
