(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson
College men's basketball team posted its first Centennial
Conference win of the season, knocking off rival Gettysburg, 74-61,
on Wednesday night. The win was the first over the Bullets since
the 2003-04 season. |
The Red Devils were on task from the opening tip, sinking
7-of-10 three-pointers in the first-half to take a 40-28 lead into
halftime.
The Bullets pulled in front by seven early in the half, but the
Devils were never rattled. A Chris Heine (Spring Lake,
N.J./St. Rose)three-pointer tied the game at 19 with 7:40
remaining in the half. Dickinson went on a 15-4 run in the final
minutes to take a 12 point advantage into the break.
Following another strong start by the Devils in the second half,
Gettysburg rallied with a 13-7 run to pull within six at the 13:30
mark.
The Devils answered with solid defense, holding the Bullets
scoreless for just under five minutes. They used just one
three-pointer to make a 15-1 run during that stretch, extending the
lead to 21 points (63-42) with seven minutes left to play.
The Bullets could cut the deficit to no fewer than 13 down the
stretch. Dickinson converted 8-of-10 free throws to secure the
win.
Junior Matt Dolan (Chalfont, Pa./St. Joe's
Prep) finished with a game-high 20 points, hitting a
trio of three-pointers on the night. Classmate Chris
Harrington (Cheverly, Md./Georgetown Prep)scored 13
points, shooting 4-for-5 from the field, sinking three triples in
the first half.
First-year Doug Jakiela (Wayne,
Pa./Conestoga) added 10 points, hitting 3-of-4 from
the field and 4-of-6 from the line whileChris Barsanti
(Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) scored eight points,
all from the line (8-10).
Pat Kearns (Hartford, Conn./East
Catholic) went 6-for-6 from the line and scored eight
points. Heine tallied nine points andTrevor Kenny
(Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South) played solid
defense and controlled five rebounds.
Andrew Powers (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) led Gettysburg (9-8,
7-4) with 19 points.
The Red Devils improve to 1-15 overall and 1-10 in the
Centennial Conference. They are home again on Saturday, hosting
Haverford at 4:00 pm.
