(Potomac, Md.) - The Dickinson
College men's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead and held
off a late run to defeat St. Mary's (Md.)College, 7-6 on
Saturday. |
The teams met at the Bullis School for the second straight
season. The Red Devils took an 2-0 lead in the first quarter behind
goals from Chris Dodson (Bethesda,
Md./Landon) and Ted Sirvaitis
(Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich).
Sirvaitis sandwiched a pair of goals around
first-year Brandon Palladino's (Basking Ridge,
N.J./Ridge) first collegiate goal to put the Devils
in front 5-1 at halftime.
Penalties hurt the Devils in the third period as the Seahawks
kept Dickinson off the board while scoring a pair of goals to pull
within 5-3 at the end of the quarter.
Dodson capitalized on a Seahawk penalty with an extra-man goal
at the 8:24 mark, assisted by first-year Matt Cherry
(Radnor, Pa./Radnor).
Ryan Alexander scored his third goal of the game to make the
score 6-4 Devils with 6:30 remaining in the contest.
SophomoreSam Abramson (Alexandria,
Va./Potomac) tallied what would be the eventual
game-winner with 3:19 on the clock.
The Seahawks kept battling all the way to the end, adding goals
at the 2:10 mark and pulling within one with just 22 seconds on the
clock.
The Red Devils would hold on and improve to 2-0 on the season.
Sirvaitis led the attack with a hat-trick while Dodson scored twice
and Abramson tallied a goal and two assists.
Pallandino controlled four ground balls while
senior Chris Breslin (Garden City, N.Y./Garden
City) picked-up three on the day. Sophomore
goaltender Tyler Magann (Easton,
Pa./Hill) made 19 saves in the cage.
Alexander led St. Mary's (0-2) with three goals. Peter Windsor
stopped 13 shots in goal for the Seahawks.
The Red Devils (2-0) return home to face Lycoming College on
Wednesday. Opening face-off is set for 3:30 pm.
