LANCASTER, Pa. - Coming off another stellar season and fifth consecutive appearance in the Centennial Conference championship game, the Dickinson men's lacrosse team had eight individuals named All-Centennial Conference the league office announced on Wednesday morning. Junior defender,
Jack Deady was named the Defensive Player of the Year, while first-year
Drew Stark earned Rookie of the Year honors. Joining the duo on First Team is senior
Sam Bunten and junior
Hayden Warren. Senior
Ethan Ackerman and sophomore
Ryan Backus were tabbed for Second Team with senior
Ben Monroe and junior
Luke Whalen claiming Honorable Mention.
Special Award Winners
Deady, the native of Atlanta, Georgia, has appeared and started in all 18 games for the Red and White forcing 13 turnovers and getting 11 ground balls, while locking down the opponent's top attacker in each game. In addition to drawing the task of playing the leading attacker he has forced multiple turnovers in four games, including a season-high four against McDaniel (3/25). He also has two or more ground balls in two games with a top number of three versus Haverford on April 18th.Â
Stark, the resident of Hollywood, Maryland, has played in 17 games making 15 starts as a rookie totaling 21 goals and 11 helpers to go along with 16 ground balls. He opened his season with a bang posting four goals in his debut at Stevens on February 14th. Stark has scored in 12 of his last 14 games which includes four games with two goals. He also has recorded multiple ground balls in five games with a season-high three at home against St. Mary's (Md.) (4/11).Â
First Team
Bunten, the native of Potomac, Maryland, has played in all 18 games racking up 43 ground balls and forcing a dozen turnovers, while notching two goals and three assists on the offensive side of the ball. He is a presence on the wings during the face-offs which has resulted in him collecting at least one ground ball in every game, including recording a season-high five twice versus Stevens (2/14) and Washington (Md.) (3/21). The midfielder is also heavily involved on the defensive end posting two caused turnovers in games against Stevenson (3/7), Washington (Md.) (3/21), Muhlenberg (4/25) and Gettysburg (5/2)
Warren, out of Severna Park, Maryland, has appeared and started in 17 contests leading the conference in caused turnovers with 33 in addition to getting to 51 loose balls and picking up three helpers and a goal. During the season he has posted at least one ground ball in every game and one caused turnover in all but one game. He has recorded a season-high six ground balls in two separate games against McDaniel (3/25) and Franklin & Marshall (4/15). He forced two or more turnovers in a ten games with a high of five coming versus McDaniel.
Second Team
Ackerman, from Tewksbury, New Jersey, has played in and started 17 games recording 26 ground balls and causing 19 turnovers, while also adding an assist. During a six game run from March 21st to April 11th he totaled 16 ground balls and forced a dozen giveaways. In the conference tournament semifinal against Swarthmore he notched an assist in addition to causing two miscues and a tracking down one ground ball.Â
Backus, the resident of Fairfield, Connecticut, made an appearance in all 18 games so far this season going 152-for-265 (57.4%) at the faceoff X this season scooping up 87 ground balls and adding a pair of markers. He has nine games with ten or more wins, including three contests with 15-plus. During a two-game stretch against St. Mary's (Md.) and Franklin & Marshall he combined to go 27-5 tracking down 20 loose balls. In the regular season finale versus Muhlenberg on April 25th he posted 10 wins and five ground balls to go along with scoring a goal.
Honorable Mention
Monroe, the native of Charlotte, North Carolina, has made his final season in Carlisle memorable appearing in all 18 games, making nine starts tallying 27 points on 19 goals and eight helpers in addition to claiming 13 ground balls. So far this season he has six games with multiple goals, including a season-high three and one assist on the road at Stevenson on March 7th.Â
Whalen, out of Marriotsville, Maryland, has appeared in a dozen games, making ten starts racking up 12 goals and 12 helpers to go along with 10 ground balls and forcing a turnover. He has had five games with two goals, including a streak of three straight against Gettysburg, St. Mary's (Md.) and Franklin & Marshall. In two of the last three games, Whalen has scored twice and handed out three helpers.Â
