(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson
College baseball team won its Centennial Conference opener,
defeating visiting McDaniel College, 4-2, on a cloudy Tuesday
afternoon at MacPhail Field. |
The Red Devils pushed two runs across in the bottom of the first
inning after Mike Schuster (Malvern, Pa./Great
Valley) drew a lead-off walk to start the inning.
Jordan Kaufman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset
Area) singled andGarrett Horan (Providence,
R.I./Moses Brown) doubled to score
Schuster. Peter Bilali (Paramus,
N.J./Paramus) then hit a sacrifice fly to right
field, scoring Kaufman to give the Devils a 2-0 advantage.
A lead-off walk led to a McDaniel run in the second inning. The
Devils tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the fifth.
Horan reached on an error and Tyler Rosa' (Carmel
by the Sea, Calif./Stevenson School) singled. They
would both score on a single from Ben Sciambi (Port
Monmouth, N.J./Ridge) to stretch the lead to 4-1.
Brad Kline singled and later scored on a wild pitch in the top
of the seventh. That would be all the scoring as Sean
White (Summit, N.J./Salisbury School) came on for the
save, striking out five batters in three innings of
work. Evan Fitzpatrick (Ithaca,
N.Y./Ithaca) earned the win, recording six strikeouts
in six innings.
Sciambi went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs to lead the Devils at
the plate. Bart Marchant (Lakeville,
Conn./Hotchkiss) added a double.
The Red Devils improve to 4-10 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial
Conference. They travel to McDaniel on Friday for a 3:30 start.
