College baseball team suffered a 6-3 setback to visiting Muhlenberg
on Friday afternoon. |
The Red Devils started strong as junior Mike
Schuster (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) led-off the game
with a double. He would score on a double from
sophomore Garret Horan (Providence, R.I./Moses
Brown).
Horan put the Devils up 2-0, scoring on a deep sacrifice fly to
center by Tyler Rosa (Carmel by the Sea,
Calif.).
Matt Tuneski (Waterford,
Conn./Waterford) singled, stole second later scored
off the bat of Schuster in the fourth inning to stretch the lead to
3-0.
Junior Joe DiCecilia would prove to be a problem for the Devils,
hitting a two-run homer in the sixth inning to cut the margin to
3-2. He later drove in the tying run and then put the Mules in
front 4-3 as Muhlenberg scored three runs in the top of the eighth
to take a 5-3 lead.
Brian Beck drove in DiCecilia in the eighth and then hit a
double to score Bobby Spindler in the ninth for the final of
6-3.
Schuster and Horan both went 2-for-4 as Horan finished with a
pair of doubles on the day.
Andrew Mauro (Washington,
D.C./Mercersburg) turned in a solid performance on
the mound. He went 7.1 innings, scattering nine hits and recording
four strikeouts.
The Red Devils are scheduled to be in action again on Saturday,
hosting a 12:30 double-header against Washington College.
