(Westminster, Md.) - The
#5-ranked Dickinson College men's lacrosse team closed out the
regular season with a 12-8 win on the road at McDaniel College on
Saturday. |
The Red Devils add to their school record for wins in a season,
improving to 14-1 overall and 7-1 in the Centennial Conference.
They will be the #2-seed in the conference tournament, facing
Haverford College next Friday at Gettysburg. McDaniel will face the
host, and top-seeded Bullets in the other semifinal.
The Red Devils jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held that advantage
at the end of the first quarter. Oliver Thompson
(Greenwich, Conn./Bridgeton) scored twice
while Pat Curley (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. St.
Joe's) scored and added an assist to
senior Stephen O'Brien (Garden City,
N.Y./Chaminade).
JS Duke answered early in the second quarter and the teams
traded goals to give the Devils a 6-2 lead at halftime.
The Green Terror struck first in the second half
before Sam Abramson (Alexandria,
Va./Potomac) tallied twice to stretch the margin to
8-3 with 9:47 remaining in the third period.
Long-stick Brandon Palladino (Basking Ridge,
N.J./Ridge) put the Devils in front 9-4 and just 23
seconds later Chris Dodson (Bethesda,
Md./Landon) extended the lead to 10-4.
McDaniel added a goal at the end of the third and outscored the
Devils 3-2 in the fourth for the final of 12-8.
Abramson led the Devil attack with four goals on the afternoon.
Thompson and Dodson each scored twice and tallied an assist.
Palladino controlled nine ground balls to add to his goal while
sophomore Chip Murray (New Canaan, Conn./New
Canaan)won 15-of-22 face-offs and controlled six GBs.
Senior Tyler Magann (Easton, Pa./The Hill
School) made 14 saves to earn the win in goal for
Dickinson.
Gibbs Preston scored two goals and dished out a pair of assists.
Ty Wittelsberger made seven saves in the first half for McDaniel.
Brad Motley came on in the second half to stop three shots.
The Red Devils will face Haverford in the Centennial Conference
playoffs next Friday. Game time will be announced on Monday.
