(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson
College baseball team split its final Centennial Conference
double-header with Swarthmore on Saturday. The Red Devils opened
with a thrilling 8-6 win in game one but fell in the nightcap,
15-3. |
The Devils scored runs in the first and second innings to take a
2-0 lead. Mike Schuster (Malvern, Pa./Great
Valley) drew a walk to start the game and scored in
an RBI single from designated-hitterEvan Farha (Potomac,
Md./Churchill).
Matt Tuneski (Waterford,
Conn./Waterford) was hit by a pitch to lead-off the
second. He would score on a sacrifice fly from Bart
Marchant (Lakeville, Conn./Hotchkiss).
The Garnet came alive with four runs in the top of the third
inning. They stretched the lead to 5-2 after Spencer Ross tripled
and scored on a sacrifice fly.
Tuneski hit a two-run double to right center in the fourth and
singled in Garrett Horan (Providence, R.I./Moses
Brown) in the fifth. Horan reached on a double,
scoring Andrew Sterling (Houston,
Texas/Episcopal) to put the Devils in front, 6-5.
Swarthmore capitalized on an error to lead-off the sixth inning.
They would briefly tie the game before the Devils answered in the
bottom half of the inning to post an 8-6 win.
Marchant singled and scored off the bat of Sterling, who singled
and stole second. Sterling would come around as Horan singled to
pick up another RBI.
Sophomore Sean White (Summit,
N.J./Salisbury) earned a complete game win, recording
seven strikeouts and scattering seven hits.
Horan went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Tuneski was
2-for-2 with three RBIs while Sterling scored twice to lead the Red
Devils.
Swarthmore pushed across two runs in the top of the first in
game two. The Devils answered with on in the bottom half of the
inning. Farha tallied another first-inning RBI, scoring Sterling,
who reached on an error.
The Garnet stetched the lead to 3-1 in the third and would add
four in the fourth and six in the fifth to take control of game
two.
Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth,
N.J./Ridge) singled in the seventh inning and moved
to second on a single by Tuneski. Sciambi would score on a double
steal as the ball sailed into center field on the throw to second
base.
Dave Bernstein (Bala Cynwyd, Pa./Lower
Merion) singled in the ninth and scored on an RBI
single from Max Warner (New York, N.Y./Poly
Prep).
Warner finished 2-for-2 with a pair of singles to lead the
Devils at the plate.
The Red Devils stand at 8-25 overall and 4-14 in the Centennial
Conference. They are scheduled to travel to Messiah College on
Tuesday for a 3:30 start against the Falcons.
