(Allentown, Pa.) - The
#5-ranked Dickinson College men's lacrosse team rallied once again,
scoring four goals in the fourth quarter to hand host Muhlenberg a
12-10 defeat on Wednesday night. |
The Mules jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held a 4-1 advantage
before the Red Devils answered with three straight to tie the game,
4-4, at the end of the first period.
B.J. West (Summit, N.J/Summit) gave the
Devils a quick lead before Muhlenberg used a 3-1 run to hold a 7-6
edge at halftime.
The teams traded goals in the third with Sam
Greenberg (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) pulling
Dickinson within one, scoring on aChris Breslin (Garden
City, N.Y./Garden City) assist in the final
minute.
Muhlenberg capitalized on an extra-man opportunity to give the
Mules a 10-8 lead with 11:24 remaining in the game. The Devils
would then take over, scoring the final four goals for the second
time in as many games to improve to 11-1 overall.
Senior Chris Dodson (Bethesda,
Md./Landon) scored at the 8:59 mark and then
assisted Ward Gruppo (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield
Prep) to tie the game with 4:21 on the clock.
First-year Matt Cherry (Radnor,
Pa./Radnor) netted the game-winner with 3:25 to
play. Sam Abramson (Alexandria,
Va./Potomac) found and open net for an insurance goal
and the Devils held on for the final 1:29.
Dodson led the attack with two goals and an assist as 11
different players scored for the Devils.
Chip Murray (New Canaan, Conn./New
Canaan) won 12 face-offs and controlled a game-high
nine ground balls. Al Golod (Lloyd Harbor, N.Y./Cold
Spring Harbor) tallied five ground balls and caused a
pair of turnovers. Breslin caused three turnovers on the night as
well.
Sophomore Nick Pohanka (Alexandria,
Va./Landon) came on in the second half to earn the
win in goal, making a pair of saves.
Jack Reilly led Muhlenberg with two goals and two assists. Mike
Horowitz made 15 saves on the night.
The Red Devils tie the school record with their 11th win,
matching the 2006 season. They improve to 4-1 in the Centennial
Conference. Dickinson hosts Washington College on Saturday at 2:00
pm.
