(Westminster, Pa.) – The 11th-ranked Dickinson College men's lacrosse team weathered a blizzard and double-overtime to post a 7-6 victory at McDaniel College on Wednesday afternoon. The game was resumed from last week when it was suspended due to thunderstorms with 20 seconds remaining in the first half.

The Devils held a 4-3 lead at the break with the help of two goals and two assists from Christian Beitel (Newtown, Conn./Newtown).

McDaniel scored the first two goals of the game to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. They came out of halftime and scored the only two goals of the third period to regain the lead, 5-4.

The Red Devils capitalized on an extra-man opportunity to tie the game. Junior Bobby Kingsley (Bethesda, Md./St. Alban's) scored off an assist from Nick Leon (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) at the 9:29 mark.

Beitel netted his third goal of the game just 35 seconds later with an assist from first-year Brian Cannon (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola Blakefield) to put the Devils up, 6-5. DJ Rickels tallied his third goal of the game to pull the Green Terror even at 6-6 with 6:58 remaining in regulation.

The teams remained scoreless over the final 6:58 of regulation and the first two-minute overtime. Junior Ward Gruppo (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) received the ball up top of what appeared to be a broken play, and drove to the cage to net the game-winner with just 45 seconds remaining in the second overtime.

Beitel finished with three goals and two assists to lead the Red Devils. Kingsley scored twice while Cannon added a goal and an assist. Brandon Palladino (Basking Ridge, N.J./Basking Ridge) caused four turnovers and controlled four ground balls.

Long-stick defender Peter Zouck (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) caused three turnovers on the day and controlled five GBs. Carter Moore (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) won 4-of-10 face-offs. Greg Hanley (Laurel Hollow, N.J./Cold Spring Harbor) made nine saves, including a critical one in the second overtime. He also controlled six ground balls.

Christian Dallmus made 15 saves for McDaniel (3-6, 0-3), including two in the first overtime.

The #11-ranked Red Devils improve to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to face #9-ranked Haverford College on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
