(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College baseball team just never seemed to get on track, falling to #12-ranked Johns Hopkins University, 10-1, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Blue Jays struck early, scoring once in the first and again in the second to take a 2-0 lead. They used a pair of walks and capitalized on a Red Devil error to tack on four runs in the third to stretch the advantage to 6-0.
Aaron Borenstein drew a walk, stole second and third, and then came in on a balk call in the fourth to add another run to the Hopkins lead. Three straight singles led to another Blue Jay score in the sixth to put Hopkins in front 8-0. A pair of walks and two long fly balls led to a run in the seventh.
The Devils found some life in the bottom of the seventh as Tyler Rosa' (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School) led-off the inning with a single to right field. He moved to third as Jordan Kaufman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) hit a double to the wall in left field. Rosa' would come in to score on a long sacrifice fly to center by junior Matt Tuneski (Waterford, Conn./Waterford).
The Blue Jays closed out the scoring with an unearned run in the eighth for the final of 10-1. Hopkins improves to 10-6 overall and 3-0 in the Centennial Conference.
Rosa' went 2-for-4 with the Devils' lone run of the day. Senior Evan Hennessy (Langhorne, Pa/Neshaminy) added a single in the fifth.
The Red Devils are scheduled to travel to Baltimore on Friday to face these same Blue Jays at 3:30 pm. They are then slated to return home for a 12:30 double-header with Haverford College on Saturday.
