Boxscore

(Carlisle, Pa.) - The Dickinson College baseball team slipped to 1-9 in conference play, falling to visiting Gettysburg, 8-5, on Monday afternoon.

The Bullets capitalized on a pair of hit batters and a two RBI singles from Matt Karis and Tommy LeNoir to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. A lead-off double and two walks helped Gettysburg produce three more runs in the third to stretch the margin to 6-1.

The Red Devils answered with one in the bottom of the first as senior Evan Hennessy (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) singled and scored on a passed ball. The Devils cut the deficit to 6-2 in the fourth as junior Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth, N.J./Ridge) drew a two-out walk and came around in a double to the left centerfield wall.

The Bullets scored a pair of two-out runs in the seventh to stretch the lead to 8-2. The Devils held in the eighth and pulled the Bullets back into striking distance with three runs in the inning. Sterling doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Hennessy drew a walk, leading to the end of the day for starting pitcher John Donovan.

James Santoro (Freehold, N.J./St. Rose) drove the next pitch down the left field line to score Sterling. Hennessy and Santoro would also score off RBIs from garrett Horan (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown) and Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth, N.J./Ridge) to cut the lead to 8-5.

Matt Vidal (Bronx, N.Y./All Hallows) came on to pitch in the third. He was able to escape two base runners with no outs in the ninth to keep the Bullets in site. Gettysburg would hold in the ninth, however, to secure the win.

Five Bullets recorded two hits in the game. Patrick O'Grady led the way, adding three RBIs and a double. Donovan earned the win, improving to 1-2 on the year.

Santoro led the Devils with two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Kaufman went 2-for-4 with and RBI and Sterling added a pair of hits, including a double, and scored a run. Vidal finished with seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work.

The Red Devils slip to 14-13 overall and 1-9 in the Centennial Conference. They are in action again tomorrow, traveling to McDaniel for a 3:30 pm start.
