Devils Open Series at McDaniel With 7-4 Win

(Westminster, Md.) – The Dickinson College baseball made the most of the nice weather, posting a 7-4 win at McDaniel College on Thursday. The Red Devils jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, pushing across three more in the third and a pair of unearned runs in the sixth for the win.

 

Senior Evan Hennessy (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) drew a walk and scored on back-to-back singles from James Santoro (Freehold, N.J./St. Rose) and Tyler Rosa' (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School). Santoro came in off a sacrifice fly by Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth, N.J./Ridge).

 

Rosa' and junior classmate Jordan Kaufman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) singled in the third and both came in on a double to right center by Sciambi for his second and third RBIs of the game.

 

Mike Schuster (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) reached on an error with one out in the sixth inning. He scored as Hennessy doubled to left center. Santoro reached on another Green Terror error before Rosa' tallied another RBI with a sacrifice fly to score Hennessy.

 

McDaniel put a run on the board in the second inning with a two-out double and single from Jimmy Najera and Chris Longo. Tyler Jackow reached on a walk and came across after three straight hits for the Terror to cut the Devil lead to 7-2 in the third.

 

They tacked on single runs in the fifth and seventh for the final of 7-4. Najera led the Terror (10-13, 3-8) at the plate, going 2-for-4 while Christopher was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

 

Sciambi led the Devils with three RBis while Rosa' went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Kaufman and Matt Tuneksi (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) each added a pair of hits while Hennessy scored twice to go with his RBI double. Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) went 3-for-5 on the day.

 

First-year Ryan Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) went six innings to earn the win on the mound, striking out two and scattering eight hits. Senior Evan Fitzpatrick (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) picked up the save, retiring 6-of-7 batters faced.

 

The Red Devils improve to 15-13 and 2-9 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to complete the series against the Green Terror team tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 pm.
