(Carlisle, Pa.) - The #7-ranked Dickinson College men's lacrosse team turned in a solid performance under poor playing conditions to hold off visiting Swarthmore, 9-6, on Saturday afternoon. Playing in a heavy rain for the better part of the contest, the Red Devils weathered the storm and a tenacious effort by the Garnet.

The Devils capitalized on a extra-man opportunity as Richard Craft (Newtown Square, Pa./Episcopal) scored off an assist from Matt Cherry (Radnor, Pa./Radnor) at the 11:27 mark of the first quarter. Junior Bobby Kingsley (Bethesda, Md./St. Albans) put Dickinson up, 2-0, scoring just two minutes later with an assist from Pat Curley (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. St. Joseph).

It took less than a minute for the Devils to stretch the lead to 3-0 as Cherry fed sophomore Christian Beitel (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) at the 8:31 mark of the first quarter.

Swarthmore answered with a pair of goals to cut the deficit to 3-2 at the end of the first. Pat Greene finished a Brandon Conway assists with 4:40 to play and Steve Selvarian found the net with 1:11 remaining in the quarter.

The third quarter saw five goals, but all came in the final 4:34 of the period. Daniel Kowalyshyn tied the game with an assist from Zach Belden to trigger a scoring frenzy in the final minutes. The teams traded goal for goal to enter the final quarter tied, 6-6.

Beitel connected with Gleason at the 2:39 mark before Jonathan Molloy tallied another Garnet equalizer. Sophomore Nick Leon (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) scored to give Cherry his third assist of the game with 53 seconds to play. Kevin Pytlar evened things again, 6-6, with just 21 seconds on the clock.

The Red Devil defense closed the door in the fourth, holding the Garnet scoreless while netting three for the final margin of 9-6. Gleason completed the hat-trick with 10:33 remaining, crediting Ward Gruppo (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep). Beitel scored on the ensuing face-off as classmate Brandon Palladino (Basking Ridge, N.J./Basking Ridge) controlled the ground ball and dished out the assist.

Cherry finished off the scoring with 7:11 remaining as Kingsley found him for the Devils' final tally.
