(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson College baseball team erupted for 25 runs in five innings, improving to 3-1 on the season with a 25-4 win at Lancaster Bible College on Thursday afternoon. The Red Devils pounded out 22 hits on the day, including a grand-slam by Zee Crawford (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and a three-run homer from senior shortstop Jordan Kaufman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area).
The Devils scored five runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a double from Matt Tuneski (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) and a two-run single by Garrett Horan (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown).
Frank DiFilippo answered with the first of a pair of two-run homers, which would account for all the Charger scoring. He hit another two-run shot in the bottom of the third.
The Devils had pushed across 10 more runs to take a 15-4 lead at the end of three innings. Designated-hitter Mike Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) drove in two runs in the second, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs on the day.
Kaufman launched a three-run bomb over the wall to trigger a six-run rally in the third. The Devils tacked on four runs in the fourth and added six more in the fifth. Crawford cleared the bases with a grand slam. He added a sacrifice fly in the fourth, going 1-for-1 with a run scored and five RBIs. He has a remarkable 2.50 slugging percentage, driving in six runs in just a pair of at-bats.
Horan hit his first career homerun to open the inning. He set a school record and tied the Centennial Conference mark with six hits in the game. He added five singles, tying the school record with five runs scored and driving in three on the day.
First-year Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) earned the win on the mound while Charlie Gaines (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School) came on for two innings of relief.
Kaufman finished the day 3-for-3 with five RBIs and four runs scored. Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth, N.J./Ridge) was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and an RBI.
Tuneski added a two-run single before Mike DeVivo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) came on for back-to-back singles and an RBI.
Conor Foote (Narberth, Pa./Lower Marion) added a hit, walk and scored twice while Matt Schagrin (Amherst, N.H./Soughegan) added a hit, run and an RBI. Senior Tyler Rosa' (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School) walked twice and scored twice.
The Red Devils (3-1) head south to Florida for spring break. They will face St. Vincent College on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
