(Allentown, Pa.) – The Dickinson College baseball team came out on top of a slugfest in Allentown, posting a 19-14 win at Muhlenberg on Tuesday afternoon.
The Mules went through eight pitchers on the day while the Devils went to the pen on three occasions. The Red Devils scored in each of the first seven innings except the third, pushing across seven in the sixth to pull in front, 14-5.
The Mules tallied three in the bottom of the inning but the Devils came back with five more in the seventh to stretch the lead to 19-8, heading into the eighth.
Muhlenberg looked to rally, using a three-run homer, and scoring five in the eighth to pull within 19-13. They added on in the ninth before the Devils closed out the game, claiming a key Centennial Conference victory in the process.
Senior Matt Tuneski (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) led the hit parade, going 5-for-6 on the day, driving in five runs and scoring three. He started his day with a solo homerun in the second inning and added a double in the eighth.
Classmate Andrew Sterling (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) went 5-for-6 as well, adding two doubles, scoring a pair of runs and driving in a third. Tyler Rosa' (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School) tallied three hits, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth, N.J./Ridge) added a pair of doubles, drew a walk, and reached on an error. He came across the plate four times and drove in a pair of runs.
First-year Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) drove in two runs and scored twice, adding a pair of hits. Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Mt. Kisco) and Jordan Kaufman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) each added two hits on the day as well.
Overall, the Red Devils tagged Mule pitchers for 24 hits on the afternoon. First-year Charlie Gaines (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School) turned in a strong performance as the Devil starter, recording five strikeouts and allowing just four runs in the opening four innings.
Nick Kennedy led the Mules, going 4-for-5 with five RBIs and a three-run homer on the day.
The Red Devils improve to 20-11 overall and 7-6 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to complete the series with Muhlenberg on Friday afternoon at MacPhial Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
