(Chestertown, Md.) – The Dickinson College baseball team split a double-header at Washington College on Saturday afternoon. The Red Devils rallied in game one to take a 5-2 lead before the hosts answered to take the opener, 6-5.
The Devils would not make the same mistake in game two, erupting for 19 runs to win the nightcap, 19-9. The Red Devils broke the school record with their 22nd win of the season, breaking the mark set last spring. The Devils posted back-to-back, 20-win seasons for the first time in program history as well.
The Red Devils launched a school record six homeruns in game two, setting a program record with 24 on the year. Tyler Rosa' (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School) hit two in the game and another in game one. He went 4-for-10 on the day, scoring four runs and driving in six.
Garrett Horan (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown) added a homerun and also hit a pair of doubles to break the school record with 16 on the season. The Devils also broke the team season record with 79 two-baggers on the year.
Washington scored single runs in the third and the fifth innings. The Devils pushed across five runs in the seventh as Rosa' led-off the inning with a homerun. The Devils hit three doubles in the inning as Jordan Kaufman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset), Mike Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) and Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) added three of the Devils' six hits in the frame.
The Shoremen rallied with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and held on for the 6-5 win. Tursi went 2-for-3 in the opener while Rosa' finished 2-for-4 in game one. Ryan Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) suffered the loss. He scattered six hits over seven innings and recorded three strikeouts.
The Red Devils wasted little time setting the tone in game two, scoring four runs in the first inning. Washington answered with two in the bottom the second and added one after the Devils pushed across two more in the third to lead, 6-3, at the end of three.
The Devils tallied 13 runs over the next four innings, adding five in the top of the fifth to pull away, 11-3.
Rosa' drove in five runs behind a pair of homeruns, scoring three times as well. Horan went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Kaufman hit a three-run homer, drew a pair of walks and scored four runs in the game.
Adams added three RBIs, going 2-for-5 and scoring twice. Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Mt. Kisco) had three RBIs as well, going 2-for-5 and scoring twice. Andrew Sterling (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) went 2-for-5, scoring two runs, and Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth, N.J./Ridge) scored twice, drawing a pair of walks.
Sean White (Summit, N.J./Salisbury School) went seven innings to earn the win, improving to 6-1 on the season. Andrew Mauro (Washington, D.C./Mercersburg) came on in relief, and Zee Crawford (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) struck out two to close in the final inning.
The Red Devils (22-12, 9-7 CC) are scheduled to travel to Elizabethtown on Monday before returning home for a double-header against Swarthmore next Saturday at 12:30 pm.
