(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College baseball team swept a Centennial Conference double-header on Saturday, posting a 7-1 win over Swarthmore in the opener, and 2-0 shutout in the nightcap.
The Devils led-off the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back base hits from Jordan Kaufman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset Area) and Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth, N.J./Ridge), and scored a pair of runs as they came in on a sacrifice fly and another base-hit, from Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City).
The Garnet answered with a run in the fifth, but the Devils added five runs of insurance in the seventh inning to secure a 7-1 decision. Andrew Sterling (Houston, Texas./Episcopal) reached on an error before four straight hits from the Red Devils led to a five run clip.
Sterling came around to score, breaking the school record with his 40th run of the season. Senior Tyler Rosa' (Carmel, Calif./Stevenson School) reached on a bunt single and Garrett Horan (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown) singled to drive in two more runs for the Devils.
Kaufman doubled to score Rosa' and Horan came in on a sacrifice fly from Sciambi. Senior Matt Vidal (Bronx, N.Y./All Hallows) came on for a pinch-hit RBI, stretching the lead to 7-1.
Rosa' went 3-for-5 in the opener while Horan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Kaufman went 2-for-4 as well, scoring twice and driving in another.
Ryan Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) earned the win on the mound, going seven innings, scattering four hits and striking out four as well. Harley Moore (Deltaville, Va./Middlesex) came on to record three strikeouts in a pair of no-hit innings of relief.
Senior Sean White (Summit, N.J./Salisbury) went the distance on the mound to win game two, 2-0. He improves to 7-1 on the season, allowing just five hits while recording nine strikeouts. That raises his school record for career strikeouts to 274. He also tied the school record with career win number 22, tying Bernie Keating (1938-41).
Rosa' doubled in the sixth and scored on an RBI single from first-year Mike Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive). The Devils added another in the eighth as Horan doubled to lead off the inning. That marked the 43rd of his career, tying Ryan Stearrett '07 for the school record.
Horan moved over on a sacrifice bunt by Rosa' and came in to score on an RBI from Kaufman for the final of 2-0. Kaufman went 2-for-3 in the nightcap to lead the Devils at the plate.
The Red Devils raise their school record for wins in a season, improving to 25-12 overall. They improve to 11-7 in the Centennial Conference. They must wait for the outcome of make-up games on Sunday to determine the field for the conference playoffs next weekend.
