(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College baseball team swept a double-header with Ursinus on Saturday. Senior pitcher Sean White (Summit, N.J./Salisbury School) set the school record for career strikeouts with 253.
White recorded 11 in the nightcap, earning a complete-game win, holding the Bears to just two hits in a 3-0 shutout. White eclipses the old mark of Peter Sivess, who played from 1933-1936. Sivess recorded 243 and had a remarkable run as the school's all-time leader.
The Red Devils jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one. Andrew Sterling (Houston, Texas/Episcopal) drew a lead-off walk and stole second. He scored on an RBI single from Tyler Rosa' (Carmel, Caif./Stevenson School).
Garrett Horan (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown) and Ben Sciambi (Port Monmouth, N.J./Ridge) doubled to stretch the lead to 3-0.
The Bears answered with one on the top of second and two in the third to tie the game, 3-3. A walk and back-to-back singles gave Ursinus a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning. Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) drew a walk and moved on a sacrifice bunt by Sterling. He stole third and came in to score with Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Mt. Kisco) on a double from Rosa' to put the Devils back in the lead, 5-4.
Ryan Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) scattered six hits over five innings, recording three strikeouts. Andrew Mauro (Washington, D.C./Mercersburg) came on to earn the win, improving to 5-1 on the year. He held the Bears to three hits in four innings, recording a pair of strikeouts.
Rosa' finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Sciambi added a pair of hits as well.
White retired 13 straight batters before giving up a hit in game two. Horan doubled twice, raising his season total to 12. He scored in the fourth and drove in two runs in the fifth for the 3-0 win.
Sciambi went 3-for-3 while Tursi was 2-for-3 on the day, adding a run. Haynes was 2-for-4 with an RBI as well.
The Devils improve to 17-9 overall and 4-4 in the Centennial Conference. They host McDaniel College on Tuesday at 3:30 pm.
