(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team returned to the Kline Center for the first time in 2013, following a six-game stretch of road games. The Red Devils celebrated their homecoming with a 54-43 win over visiting Gettysburg College on Wednesday night.
Strong defensive play and methodical offense led to a low scoring first half. The Devils matched their largest lead of the night, taking a 17-13 advantage into the break.
The scoring picked up after intermission as Dickinson opened with an 11-6 run to pull in front, 28-19, at the 13:35 mark. Junior Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) knocked-down a pair of three-pointers in a span of just 45 seconds to stretch the Devil lead to double-figures with 11:11 remaining in the game.
Gettysburg pulled within six but could come no closer for the remainder of the game. A 5-0 run for the Devils gave them a 41-30 lead with 7:28 on the clock. The Bullets made one final push, cutting the deficit to 44-38 on a pair of Connor Poston free throws with 1:30 left to play.
Dickinson would hit 8-of-12 free throws in the final minute to secure the win. Honig also made a steal and fed senior Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School, Conn.) for a lay-up to put the Devils up by 13 with 34 seconds left.
The Devils held Gettysburg to just 34 percent shooting on the night. Alex Zurn was the only Bullet to reach double-figures, scoring his 10th point with just 2:47 remaining in the game. Benjamin Constable controlled a game-high nine rebounds as Gettysburg slips to 8-8 overall and 4-5 in the Centennial Conference.
Sophomore Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville) returned to the line-up and scored a game-high 16 points on the night. He hit 8-of-10 free throws, adding an assist, steal and a blocked shot. Honig finished with 12 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Barsanti turned in a strong performance, despite some early foul trouble. He finished with nine points while first-year Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) added eight points, hitting a pair of timely three-pointers. Sophomore Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./LaSalle College) had another strong outing as well, scoring six points and controlling seven rebounds to go with three steals.
The Red Devils improve to 12-4 overall and 7-2 in the Centennial Conference. They are home again on Saturday for another key conference match-up against Johns Hopkins University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm, following the women's game against the Blue Jays at 2:00 pm.
