(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Johns Hopkins University men's basketball team shot well all afternoon, posting a 67-55 win at Dickinson on Saturday. The Blue Jays shot 63 percent from the floor in the first half and finished at 53.3% for the game.
The Red Devils just never seemed to get the engine started as the visitors used a 15-0 run, midway through the first half to open a 23-7 lead.
Sophomore Chris Cox (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) played well down the stretch, scoring on consecutive possessions, and junior Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) capitalized on a Steve Collins (Rydal, Pa./LaSalle College) steal to cut the deficit to, 38-28, at halftime.
The second half was more of the same for the Red Devils. They were unable to cut the lead to single-digits, but played virtually even with the Blue Jays in the second half. The lead remained between 12-15 points for the better part of the final 15 minutes of the game.
Hopkins drained seven three-pointers in the game. Jimmy Hammer scored a game-high 22 points behind a trio of three-pointers. Mike Rhoads went 3-for-3 from long range, adding 15 points as the Blue Jays improve to 10-7 overall and 6-4 in the Centennial Conference.
Honig led the Red Devils with 18 points, adding seven rebounds. Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) scored 12 points, going 4-for-4 from the line while Cox finished with 10 points and four rebounds. Dickinson was solid at the line, hitting 10-of-12 as a team to finish at 83 percent.
The Red Devils slip to 12-5 overall and 7-3 in the conference. They are home again on Wednesday for a big match-up with Franklin & Marshall. Opening tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
