(Winter Haven, Fla.) – The Dickinson baseball team came out on top of a high-scoring affair over Becker College, winning 10-7 on Wednesday afternoon.
Becker took an early advantage, scoring two runs in each of the first three innings to lead, 6-1. James Santoro (Freehold, N.J./St. Rose) reached on an error, stole a base and came in to score when Hank Sanders (Wellesville, Pa./Northern) was hit by pitch with the bases loaded in the third.
The Devils erupted for five runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game. Dickinson used four hits, a pair of walks and a Hawk error to pull even. Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) added a double in the inning as well.
Todd Tompkins reached on a walk and stole a pair of bases to set up a sacrifice fly and put Becker back on top, 7-6, in the bottom of the fourth. Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) drew a lead-off walk in the fifth. He moved over on another hit from Santoro and scored on a wild pitch to pull the Devils even.
Santoro scored on a double by Sam Wachs (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) to put Dickinson up, 8-7. Zee Crawford (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) led-off the sixth inning with a single. The Devils capitalized on a pair of walks and another error to score twice in the inning for the final of 10-7.
Santoro went 3-for-5 and reached on an error, coming around to score all three times he reached base. Benn Parker (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) added a pair of hits while Wachs and Sanders each drove in two runs.
Matt Cowell (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) came on in relief to earn the win. He went five and one-third innings, allowing just two hits while recording three strikeouts. Crawford came in to close, recording three strikeouts in the ninth inning to earn the save.
The Red Devils improve to 5-5 on the season. They are scheduled to face Ripon College in a double-header on Thursday.
