(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team suffered a 4-2 loss to visiting Elizabethtown College on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays scored one in the first inning and tacked on three in the fourth, getting a complete game pitching effort from Kris Davis to earn the win.
Tyler Weary led-off the game with a double, moved on a sacrifice bunt and came in to score on an RBI single from Luke Gatti to put the Blue Jays on the board in the first inning.
The Devils answered in the third as sophomore Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) reached on a single and came all the way around to score as Sam Wachs (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) doubled down the right field line.
Elizabethtown wasted little time regaining the lead, pushing across three runs. The Blue Jays loaded the bases as Weary came to the plate. He single to left to score two runs, and another came across as an errant throw to third moved the runners up another base.
The Red Devils looked to rally in the ninth. Mike Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) reached on an error and moved to second to lead-off the inning. Benn Parker (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) came in to pinch-run and scored on an RBI single from Hank Sanders (Wellesville, Pa./Northern) singled to score him.
The Blue Jays would hold on for a 4-2 win as they improved to 7-13 on the season.
James Santoro (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) went 2-for-4 to lead the Devils at the plate while Wachs had the RBI double. Charlie Gaines (Phoenix, Md./St. Paul's School) suffered the loss in a five-inning effort. He recorded five strikeouts on the day. First-year Matt Cowell (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) pitched will in relief, recording three strikeouts in four innings of work. Tyler Clausen-Wolf (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) came on in the ninth to close.
The Red Devils slip to even at 9-9 overall. They travel to Swarthmore College for a double-header on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 pm.
