(Swarthmore, Pa.) - The Dickinson baseball dropped a Centennial Conference double-header at Swarthmore on Saturday. The Garnet claimed the opener, 5-1, and completed the sweep with a 13-4 decision in the nightcap.
The Red Devils took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one but the hosts answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead. The Garnet added lone runs in the seventh and eighth innings for the final of 5-1.
Senior James Santoro (Freehold, N.J./St. Rose) went 3-for-5 to lead the Devils at the plate.
The Red Devils took the lead in game two as well, scoring two runs in the second inning. Mike Adams (Mt. Olive, N.J./Mt. Olive) doubled and scored as Benn Parker (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) reached on an error. Hank Sanders (Wellesville, Pa./Northern) singled to lead-off the inning and later scored as Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) walked with the bases loaded.
Swarthmore scored one in the third and took the lead with three in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a two-run double. The Garnet tacked on two more in the fifth and sixth innings to stretch the lead to 8-2.
Swarthmore had a big inning in the bottom of the eighth, adding five more runs to stretch the margin to 13-2. The Devils pushed across two more runs in the top of the ninth for the final of 13-4.
Sanders went 4-for-5 in the nightcap while Adams and Luke Besse (Marston Mills, Mass./Barnstable) each recorded a pair of hits and an RBI. Harley Moore (Deltaville, Va./Middlesex) recorded five strikeouts in four innings of work. Andrew Mauro (Washington, D.C./St. Albans/Mercersburg) and Zee Crawford (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) combined for four strikeouts in four innings of relief.
The Red Devils ( 9-11, 1-3 CC) return home to face Johns Hopkins on Tuesday at 3:30 pm at MacPhail Field.
