#2-Red Devils Celebrate Senior Day with 19-9 Victory

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #2-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team celebrated senior day with a big, 19-9, win over visiting Swarthmore College on Saturday. The Red Devils improved to 13-0 and 6-0 in the Centennial Conference. They take sole possession of first place in the CC with Haverford winning at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.

 

Juniors Brian Cannon (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola Blakefield) and Brian Gleason (Darien, Conn./Darien) were determined to give the seniors a day to remember, combining for seven goals and a pair of assists while classmate Will Scott (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) dished out three assists and added a goal as well.

 

Cannon unloaded in the opening quarter, scoring four times, including a natural hat-trick to put the Devils in front, 7-0, at the end of the first quarter. He put the Devils on the board at the 12:29 mark, finishing an assist from long pole middie, Brandon Palladino (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge).

 

Tyler White (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) and first-year Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) sandwiched a pair of goals around a tally from Gleason. Matt Cherry (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) handed out an assist to raise his career school-record total to 90.

 

Senior Christian Beitel (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) finished an assist from Scott to start the second quarter and Carter Moore (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) won a face-off and scored to stretch the Devil advantage to 9-0, with 10:40 remaining in the first half.

 

Swarthmore answered with a 3-1 run to make the score, 10-3. Gleason broke things up, scoring off an assist from Cherry at the 9:03 mark. The Devils struck in the final minute of the half as Nick Leon (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) dished out his second assist, finding Rob Kendall (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley) to put Dickinson up, 11-3, at halftime.

 

Swarthmore came out of the break determined, scoring the first two goals of the third quarter. Beitel scored again and Palladino found the net on a beautiful fast-break, ending with a give-and-go with Gleason to stretch the lead to 13-5 at the end of the third.

 

The Garnet opened the fourth strong as well, scoring three straight after Gleason scored on Scott's third assist of the afternoon. The made the score 14-8 with 6:02 remaining in the game.

 

Beitel connected with classmate Marek Laco (Potomac, Md./Landon), who found the back of the net. The Devils finished the game strong, netting four goals in the final two minutes. Scott capitalized on a Swarthmore penalty with an extra-man goal. First-year Greg Castro (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) won a face-off and made a nice dodge before netting the first goal of his collegiate career.

 

First-year Greg Shildkrout (Dresher, Pa./Germantown Academy) and junior Reid Barger (Baldwin, Md./Gilman) finished things off for the final of 19-9.

 

Jonathan Molloy led all scored with five goals to lead Swarthmore (4-9, 1-5). Jonathan Cohen made 14 saves in goal for the Garnet.

 

Cannon netted four goals while Gleason finished with three goals and two assists. Junior Draper Donley (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's) caused three turnovers and controlled four ground balls to anchor a solid defensive effort.

 

Moore was a dominant force on face-offs, winning 17-of-19 attempts and picking up a game-high 11 GBs. Castro added six wins and four GBs on the day as each scored a goal as well. Senior Greg Hanley (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) made six saves in the nets for Dickinson.

 

The #2-ranked Red Devils (13-0, 6-0 CC) travel to Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night for a 7:00 pm face-off. They close out the regular season at home next Saturday, hosting Franklin & Marshall at 3:00 pm.
