#2-Red Devils Roll to 14-0 With 15-9 Win at Muhlenberg

(Allentown, Pa.) – The #2-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team continued to roll on Wednesday night, posting a, 15-9, win at Muhlenberg College. The Red Devils improved to 14-0 on the season and 7-0 in the Centennial Conference.

 

Dickinson jumped out to a 5-0 lead, scoring four in the first quarter. First-year Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) struck first, just 1:06 into the game. He followed up with an assist to junior Brian Cannon (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola Blakefield) for his 33rd goal of the season at the 11:03 mark.

 

Junior Carter Moore (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) scored off the face-off at the 10:56 mark, putting the Devils up, 3-0.

 

Senior Matt Cherry (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) added a pair to his school record for career assists on back-to-back extra-man goals to stretch the lead to 5-0, with 13:55 remaining in the half. Will Scott (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) scored the first with 12 seconds to play in the first quarter and senior Nick Leon (Chevy Chase, Md./Gonzaga) finished the second with his 17th goal of the year.

 
 

The Mules put two goals on the board in a span of just over a minute. The Devils answered with three straight as Cherry found the net and junior Brian Gleason (Darien, Conn./Darien) tallied back-to-back goals, with assists from Cannon and Brett Parker (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's)  to put Dickinson in front, 8-2.

 

Doug Rheiner scored his second of the night with 14 seconds to play to make the score, 8-3, at halftime.

 

The Mules scored twice to start the third period, cutting the deficit to 8-5, with 9:27 remaining. Scott and Tyler White (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) closed out the quarter with goals to make the score, 10-5.

 

Long Pole midfielder Brandon Palladino (Basking Ridge, Pa./Ridge) took the opening face-off of the fourth quarter to the cage, scoring 24 seconds in to continue a six-goal run by the Devils.

 

Cannon dished out assists to Scott and Gleason, and White netted another unassisted goal to stretch the lead to 14-5. Cannon broke up a four-goal clip by Muhlenberg with an assist from Mike Reid (Ruxton, Md./Loyola) for the final of 15-9.

 

Cannon led the attack with two goals and three assists, adding four ground balls. Gleason and Scott each tallied hat-tricks while Cherry raised his career assist mark to 91.

 

Moore won 15-of-23 face-offs and controlled nine ground balls while first-year Greg Castro (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) added a win as well. Palladino picked-up five GBs to go with his goal.

 

Senior defender Peter Zouck (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) added eight ground balls and caused three turnovers. Draper Donley (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's School) caused three turnovers as well, adding five GBs on the night.

 

Greg Hanley (Laurel Hollow, N.Y./Cold Spring Harbor) made seven saves for the Devils and Max Pawk (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley) came on to make a save as well.

 

The Red Devils return home for the regular season finale, hosting Franklin & Marshall (10-4, 6-1) at 3:00 pm on Saturday. The game will determine the Centennial Conference regular season champion and the top seed in the conference tournament next week.
