Santoro Homer Secures Sweep on Senior Day

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team swept the final double-header of the season, posting an 8-3 win over Washington College in the opener, and a 9-5 decision in the nightcap.

 

Senior James Santoro (Freehold, N.J./St. Rose) celebrated senior day with an outstanding performance, capped by a three-run homerun in his final at-bat as a Red Devil. Santoro's career began with a grand slam, four years ago.

 

Santoro went 2-for-3 in game one, reaching on an error as well. In game two, he went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs scored.

 

The Devils scored eight runs over five innings while the Shoremen tried to rally with three runs in the top of the seventh.

 

Steven Haynes (Mt. Kisco, N.Y./Horace Greeley) went 4-for-5 with a triple in the opener, driving in three runs and scoring once. Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) doubled twice, stole two bases and reached on a walk.

 

Hank Sanders (Wellesville, Pa./Northern) went 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one with a double in the sixth inning.

 

Ryan Kramer (New Vernon, N.J./Morristown Beard) threw seven innings to get the win, scattering five hits and recording four strikeouts. Senior Andrew Mauro (Washington, D.C./St. Alban's/Mercersburg Academy) came on in relief, throwing two hit-less innings.

 

The Devils put up three runs in the first inning of game two as Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) led-off with a double. Santoro singled and Sanders added an RBI single to put Dickinson on the board.

 

Tursi singled in a run and Matt Primavera (Erdenheim, Pa./Chestnut Hill)was hit by a pitch to score another run.

 

Washington used a three-run double and a pair of walks to take a 4-3 lead in the second. Santoro drive in two runs in the third while Tursi drew a walk and stole a pair of bases to give the Devils a 6-4 advantage.

 

Santoro made it 9-4 with his three-run shot in the eighth. The Shoremen pushed across a run in the ninth as Joe Willis led-off the inning with a triple.

 

Harley Moore (Deltaville, Va./Middlesex) went eight innings, recording five strikeouts in the win. Tyler Clauson-Wolf (Philadelphia, Pa./Germantown Friends) came on in the ninth to close out the game.

 

Sanders went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI and a run scored. He was just two hits shy of the school record for hits in a season with 56, hitting .406 on the year.

 

The Red Devils finish the season 15-24 overall and 5-13 in the Centennial Conference.
