(Gettysburg, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team came up on the short end of a slugfest at Gettysburg on Tuesday, suffering a 15-11 setback to the Bullets.
The Devils jumped out to an early lead, scoring three unearned runs in the first inning with the help of a two-run double from Mike Adams (Mount Olive, N.Y./Mount Olive).
The Bullets pushed one run across in the first with on a RBI triple. Sophomore Mike DeVivo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) doubled and came in on a single from Benn Parker (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) in the top of the second.
The Bullets scored another in the second before a big third led to eight runs and a 10-4 lead. The Bullets tallied seven hits in the inning, including four doubles.
The Red Devils got the bats going in the seventh, scoring five runs of their own to cut the deficit to 10-9. The Devils saw hits from Zee Crawford (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) and Hank Sanders (Wellesville, Pa./Northern), and three walks lead to a three-run triple by Joe Tursi (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City).
Two more doubles led to four runs in the bottom half of the inning to run the score to 14-9. Sanders and Tursi drove in lone runs in the eighth and ninth, while Gettysburg added one more in the eighth as well for the final of 15-11.
Sanders led the Devils at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Tursi went 2-for-4 with four RBIs while DeVivo and Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) each recording a pair of hits on the day.
The Red Devils slip to 9-17 overall and 0-7 in the Centennial Conference. They will have another shot at the Bullets on Friday when they come to MacPhail Field for the second game of the series. Opening pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
