(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson women's soccer team had a slow start, but finished strong, both figuratively and literally, defeating visiting Eastern University, 6-2, on Saturday afternoon.
Following a delay from the men's double-overtime win over Carnegie Mellon, the Red Devils appeared to have a tough time finding a rhythm. Eastern capitalized with an early tally as Victoria Graham finished an assist from Emily Cole, just 2:37 into the contest.
Dickinson answered in the 22nd minute as senior Rosalin Savoie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) found the back of the net, off an assist from sophomore Jenna Lamb (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) to pull the Devils even.
Cole quickly answered to put Eastern back in front, breaking free to score, just over two minutes later. Lamb would return the favor, just moments after that, as the teams looked to trade goals throughout the game.
The Red Devils would close the door on the defensive end, however, adding four more goals on the day to claim their third win of the season (3-1). Sophomore Bridgette Corbran (Manasquan, N.J./Wall) gave Dickinson the lead with less than a minute to play in the half, collecting a nicely played ball by classmate Erin Sutphen (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville).
The Devils started to roll in the second half as Lamb struck with back-to-back goals for her second hat-trick of the season. She scored off a pair of beautiful assists from Allie Young (New Canaan, Conn./St. Luke's) and Hannah Matlack (Needham, Mass./Noble &Greenough) to stretch the advantage to 5-2, in the 59th minute.
Senior Sam Friday (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) battled in a scramble in front the net and finally poked the ball across the line in the 62nd minute for the final of 6-2.
Sophomore Charlotte Armour (New Haven, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) turned in a strong performance, making a pair of saves. The Red Devil defense was also solid, holding the Eagles to just seven shots on the day while holding a 7-2 edge in corners.
Elayna Simpson also turned in a strong performance, making 15 saves as Dickinson unloaded a total of 35 shots in the game.
The Red Devils improve to 3-1 on the season. They travel to Shenandoah University on Wednesday for a 7:00 pm match.
