(Carlisle, Pa.) – Dickinson juniors Isaac Pitkow (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) and Jonathan Harper (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) connected twice on Saturday night to lead the Red Devil men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory at Miller Memorial Field.
Harper served a long cross from the left side and Pitkow was there on the far post to put a shot in the bottom right corner and put Dickinson on the board in the 23rd minute.
The score remained 1-0 as both teams built strong chances out of the midfield. The Red Devils had more opportunities in the first half, holding a 10-2 advantage in shots.
Harper and Pitkow combined again in the second half to stretch the lead to 2-0 in the 56th minute. Harper again carried the ball down the left wing and sent a long ball on the ground that went across almost the entire penalty area.
Pitkow slipped in behind the defense with another far post run and put another shot in the back of the net for his second goal of the night and the season.
Haverford continued to press and finally broke through to cut the deficit to just a goal, with 23 minutes remaining in regulation.
The Devils answered almost exactly 10 minutes later, adding an insurance goal in the 77th minute. Haverford looked to clear a corner but the ball went right back to the Devils. Senior Nate Latshaw (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) put the final touch on a scramble with assists from Drew Carneal (Woodbine, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) and Braeden Kelly (Brookeville, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) to put Dickinson up, 3-1.
The 'Fords had another strong scoring opportunity off a free kick, late in the second half but a foul in the area prevented the goal. Haverford outshot the Devils, 12-10, after the break and held a 3-2 advantage in corners.
Senior Reed Milbrath (Dickerson, Md./Sandy Springs Friends) turned in a solid performance in goal, making six saves on the night.
Sam Miller stopped seven shots for Haverford as they slip to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the Centennial Conference.
The Red Devils improve to 10-2-1 overall and remain unbeaten in the conference. They pull even with Franklin & Marshall at 5-0. Dickinson returns to action next Saturday night, traveling to Gettysburg for a 7:00 pm kick-off.
