(Carlisle, Pa.) – The #22-ranked Dickinson women's soccer team struck early, but visiting McDaniel answered in the second half to come away with a 1-1 tie in double-overtime on Wednesday.
Junior forward Jenna Lamb (Fairfax, Va./Robinson Secondary) put the Red Devils on the board, following a great build out of the midfield. Lamb broke free down the right side and received a return ball from classmate Bridgette Corbran (Manasquan, N.J./Wall) and put the ball in the net, just 6:39 into the match.
Both teams had quality chances in the first half as Dickinson held a slim, 11-9 advantage in shots, and a 4-1 edge in corners. The goaltenders were up to the challenge as junior Charlotte Armour (New Haven, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) made eight saves in the opening 45 minutes while Haley Jacobs stopped six shots for McDaniel.
The Green Terror capitalized on a scramble in front of the net as Nicole Hill found just enough space to poke the ball through a crowd and into the back of the net, with just over five minutes remaining in regulation.
First-year Andrea Caya (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) put a dangerous strike on-goal in the first half but Jacobs deflected the shot over the crossbar. She had another strong chance early in the second half, forcing another big save from Jacobs.
Each team had opportunities to close out the game in the closing minutes of regulation. Junior Nicole Fronsdahl (Groton, Mass./Groton) fired a hard shot that was saved while McDaniel's Julia Pope drove a header just wide of the post.
Each team had more chances in overtime, but neither was able to net the golden goal. The Red Devils forced three corners in the second 10 minutes but were unable to capitalize with the game-winner.
Jacobs finished with nine saves as McDaniel moved to 7-2-2 overall and 1-1-2 in the Centennial Conference.
Armour made 10 saves on the night for the Red Devils. They move to 9-1-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the conference. They travel to Bryn Mawr College on Saturday for a 1:00 pm start.
