(Hamilton, N.Y.) – The Dickinson women's squash team split a pair of matches at Colgate University on Saturday. The Red Devils opened with a 9-0 win over host Colgate before William Smith turned the tables for a 9-0 decision in the second match.
Dickinson cruised to straight set victories in each flight of the Colgate match as the Red Devils turned in some strong individual performances. Senior Casey Merbler (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park) led the way, surrendering just seven points to capture the second flight. She allowed just one point in the first and third sets.
First-year Stuart Lemay (Harwich Port, Mass./Westover) claimed the top flight, (11-3, 11-4, 11-4). Sophomore Patricia Francis-Hall (New York, N.Y./Pomfret School) held off a late challenge to win the third while Meagan Dashcund (Hamilton, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy) dropped just eight points to win the fourth.
Field hockey crossovers Merritt Davis (Baltimore, Md./Garrison Forest) and Freddie Bancroft (Old Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) posted dominant wins in the #5 and #6 spots.
Betsy Vuchinich (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy), Ashley Doyle (Readfield, Maine/Kents Hill School) and Meghan Shippe (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park) each had strong third sets to capture the final three flights for the sweep. Kathleen Lange (Christchurch, New Zealand/Papanni) added an exhibition win for the Devils.
In the second match, #25-ranked William Smith swept the #34-ranked Devils to improve to 6-2 on the season. Dickinson claimed the opening set of the top three flights before the Herons rallied for 3-1 decisions.
Lemay battled in the top spot, falling in a tight match, (10-12, 11-9, 11-6, 12-10).
The Red Devils move to 1-3 on the season. They return to action in January, traveling to the University of Virginia Round Robin Tournament on the 24th and 25th.
