Red Devils Set School Record to Clinch Conference Top Spot

Box Score

(Baltimore, Md.) – The Dickinson men's basketball team secured the top seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs, posting a 68-63 win at Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils have broken the school record for the past three seasons, winning 12, 13 and now 14 games in conference play. Dickinson improved to 19-4 overall and 14-2 in the CC.

Johns Hopkins led in the early stages of the game, pulling in front, 16-11, at the 12:11 mark of the first half. Senior Brian Gerney (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) knocked down a three-pointer and classmate Tom McInerney (York, Pa./York Suburban) scored and converted a free throw to give Dickinson the lead with 10:38 remaining.

The Red Devils held the advantage for the remainder of the half, but were unable to break away from the Blue Jays. Senior Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) put the Devils up by six with a three-pointer at the 5:08 mark.

Dickinson went into the break, leading 30-26. They came out and stretched the lead to six again, but Hopkins answered to take the lead, 39-38, with just under 14 minutes to play.

The Blue Jays took a five point advantage on a three-pointer from Niko Kotoulas at the 7:29 mark. The Devils would answer again as well, however, tying the game for the seventh time, 52-52.

Honig sandwiched a pair of three-pointers around a triple by Hopkins' Daniel Corbett, and buried another to extend the lead to 61-55, with 2:54 remaining in regulation.

Jimmy Hammer tried to bring the Blue Jays back, hitting a jumper, a three-pointer and three free throws in the final 1:14, but solid free throw shooting by Honig and sophomore Brandon Angradi (Milford, Pa./Delaware Valley) secured the win for Dickinson, 68-63.

Honig had a double-double from his point guard position, scoring 21 points and controlling a game-high 14 rebounds. He knocked down four three-pointers, adding a pair of assists and two steals.

Angradi reached double-figures with 11 points while junior Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Camden Catholic) added eight points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Hammer led Hopkins (13-10, 10-6) with a game-high 24 points while George Bugarinovic tallied eight points and eight rebounds.

The Red Devils travel to Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night for a 7:30 tip-off and return home for the regular season finale against Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
