#7-Ranked Cavaliers Turn Back #6-Ranked Red Devils

(Radnor, Pa.) – The #6-ranked Dickinson men's lacrosse team dropped a top-10 match-up at #7-ranked Cabrini College on Wednesday afternoon, falling 19-9.

 

The Red Devils struck early, scoring the first two goals of the game. Senior Brian Cannon (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola Blakefield) put Dickinson on the board, scoring at the 11:26 mark. Senior Will Scott (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) finished an assist from first-year Tyler Llewellyn (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield), with 9:44 remaining in the quarter.

 

The Cavaliers answered with four straight goals as four different players found the net to put the hosts up, 4-2, late in the first period. Junior Tyler White (Philadelphia, Pa./Penn Charter) tallied with just 14 seconds on the clock.

 

Damian Sobieski traded goals with White to start the second quarter. Cabrini strung together three goals in a span of just over a minute, to take an 8-4 advantage, with 6:32 remaining in the half.

 

Llewellyn finished an assist from sophomore Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley) with 5:25 before Cory Elmer netted his third goal of the game with 40 seconds on the clock. That put Cabrini in front, 9-5, at halftime.

 

The Red Devils came out strong to start the second half. Cannon made a strong move, scoring just 1:28 into the second half.

 

Sobieski answered a minute later and Anthony DiSanzo scored at the 9:36 mark to stretch the lead to five. Scott made a strong move to the cage, scoring with 8:39 remaining in the quarter. Cannon cut the deficit to 11-8, scoring off an assist from Menard.

 

Tyler Johnston scored his second goal to the day, with 4:14 to play, sending the game into the fourth quarter with the Cavaliers in front, 12-8.

 

Cabrini closed out the game with a strong fourth quarter, outscoring the Devils, 7-1. Elmer scored back-to-back goals to stretch the lead to 14-8, with 11:05 to play in the game. Carter Moore (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) won the ensuing face-off and scored to break up the run.

 

The Cavaliers controlled possession and closed out the game with five more goals for the final of 19-9.

 

Elmer led the Cavaliers (2-0) with five goals and three assists on the day. Johnston, DiSanzo and Sobieski each finished with three goals as well. First-year Hank Artshuler played outstanding in goal, making 13 saves.

 

Cannon and Scott each scored twice for Dickinson while Menard dished out a pair of assists. Moore was solid on face-offs, winning 19-of-32 and controlling 10 ground balls.

 

Senior Draper Donley (Lutherville, Md./St. Paul's) controlled four GBs and caused a pair of turnovers while senior goaltender Max Pawk (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) made 11 saves.

 

The Red Devils return home to face Montclair State University on Saturday afternoon. The start time has been moved up to 1:00 pm.
