(Winter Haven, Fla.) – The Dickinson baseball team unleashed an overwhelming offensive output against Juniata College, posting a 21-4 win in Florida on Wednesday.
The Red Devils broke the game open with a five-run, fourth inning and went through the line-up, scoring 10 runs in the fifth. The Devils hammered out 22 hits on the day.
First-year Mark Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) led the way, going 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, a triple, six RBIs and four runs scored. Classmate Ryan Dolan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) drove in three runs with a pair of hits, including a triple. Phil Werner (Potomac, Md./St. Andrews) scored four times on the day, adding a pair of RBI singles.
Ironically, the Red Devils did not have a homerun in the game, but combined for six doubles and a pair of triples as 19 runs were driven in on the day.
Juniata took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, using a double and a single to score twice. They scored twice in the top of the seventh as well. The Eagles combined for seven hits.
Matt Cowell (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) went five innings to earn the win, allowing just four hits. Sophomore Christian Salem (Jenkintown, Pa./Chestnut Hill) came on for three innings of relief.
The game was called after seven innings as the Red Devils improve to 6-1 on the season. The Red Devils are scheduled to face Greenville in a double-header on Thursday afternoon.
