(Lancaster, Pa.) – The Dickinson baseball team ran its record to 12-1, hitting four homeruns in a 23-9 win, at Lancaster Bible College, on Friday afternoon.
The Red Devils continued their strong start, pounding out 18 hits on the day, with six going for extra bases. Dickinson jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning. First-year Mark Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) hit a grand-slam to highlight the inning.
Hank Sanders (Wellsville, Pa./Northern) and Mitch Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) added RBIs in the inning as well, putting the Red Devils out in front with an early lead.
The Chargers chipped away at the lead, scoring lone runs in the second, third and fourth innings, to cut the deficit to, 8-3. Dickinson answered with another big inning, scoring five runs in the fifth inning to stretch the margin to 14-3.
Phil Werner (Potomac, Md./St. Andrew's) launched a two-run homer to trigger the Devils' run. Sanders added another RBI while Mark Adams (Mount Olive, N.J./Mount Olive) drove in a run, scoring Sanders with a single.
Ryan Dolan (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Germantown Academy) tripled to score a run in the sixth as the Devils added two more to take a 16-3 lead. The Chargers tallied one in the bottom of the sixth before Henry Milano (Armonk, N.Y./Salisbury School) homered to answer in the seventh.
Lancaster Bible tried to mount a comeback in the seventh, scoring four runs on four hits, but Milano countered with a three-run homer for his second of the day. The Red Devils closed out the game with three more runs in the ninth inning for the final of 23-9.
Julian Hayes (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Academy) and Mike DeVivo (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) singled in runs, and Tim Anderson (Eldersburg, Pa./Liberty) added an RBI double.
Mark Adams went 3-for-4 on the day, driving in five runs. Milano tallied four RBIs while Sanders and Werner each added two. Dolan had the eye, drawing three walks, scoring three runs and driving in another.
Cristian Acosta (Santiago, Dominican Republic/Berkshire School) earned the win, going four innings and allowing just two earned runs while striking out three. Christian Salem (Jenkintown, Pa./Chestnut Hill) threw two strong innings in relief, recording four strikeouts and allowing just three hits.
The Red Devils improve to 12-1 on the season. They return home to face Penn State Schuylkill in a double-header on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 pm.
