(North Bethesda, Md.) – The Dickinson men's lacrosse team battled evenly with #8-ranked Denison University on Saturday, but suffered a 9-6 loss in the end.
Tyler Llewellyn (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) put the Red Devils on the board at the 11:31 mark of the first quarter, finishing an assist from Chris Menard (South Hadley, Mass./South Hadley). Senior Brian Gleason (Darien, Conn./Darien) scored with 7:18 on the clock to stretch the lead to 2-0.
Denison got on the board with 3:29 remaining, ending the quarter with the Devils on top, 2-1. The Big Red scored three straight goals in the opening three minutes of the second quarter. Luke Walsh scored twice and Eddie Vita tallied a pair of assists in the run.
Menard broke up the run, scoring with 3:38 on the clock. James Meager answered with his second tally of the game, scoring an extra-man goal to put Denison on top, 5-3, at haltime.
Llewellyn and Gleason sandwiched goals around a strike from Vita to trail, 6-5 at the end of the third quarter.
Gleason traded goals with Vita once again before Harris gave the Big Red an 8-6 advantage, scoring his third of the game with 5:03 remaining in the game.
Vita had a hat-trick as well, dishing out a pair of assists. Chris Thomas made seven saves in goal for Denison as they improve to 7-0 on the season.
Nick Baxter (Boxford, Mass./Governor's) made nine saves in goal for the Red Devils. Senior Carter Moore (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) won 10-of-19 face-offs and controlled six ground balls.
Gleason tallied a hat-trick, adding three GBs. Austin Dodson (Bethesda, Md./Landon) picked-up four GBs and Michael Smith (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) tallied three.
The Red Devils slip to 3-4 on the season. They return home to face McDaniel College on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
